Alot of 1 owner big mileage (160k plus) cars been coming on the market around the £5.5-6k mark. The whole big engine big running cost impact on the market is making these cars so ridiculously cheap ATM. Bargains.

Look at 3.0 z4's against Boxsters. It seems BMW + big petrol engine = bargain for us lot ATM.

Make the most of it.

Because they are a big engined saloon car.

Look at the price drop of the competitors, a similar age XJR or E55 AMG can be had for less.

They arent really collectable as there was so many made, they are fairly dear to look after and there are more alternatives these days.
BUT it is the ONLY V8 Manual available.

Cant ignore the m5 board vids on youtube of an e39 with exhausts keeping up with most things (and enjoying the spanking in the process).

I meant in reply to the Merc / Jag etc alternatives.

(S4 is available as a manual but is 4WD)

A 540 really isn't comparable to an M5

As well as being a size class down.

The S6 is comparable - auto only as far as I'm aware, performance-wise it'll take a contemporary RS6 - again auto only.

I bought my E39 530d in March, I have really fallen for the cars charm, even a boring old diesel!! I keep getting tempted to px against a nice M5, but I really don't think I could put up with 2/300 miles to a full tank that is circa £100! Gah, so tempting but must-keep-sensible-head-on!

Slightly off topic, how fast do you think they will fall when the new M5 is released, as I can see the E60 taking a real hammering!

God I love the stance of that M5. There's one near me and I have to stare at it every time I pass. Perfect pre-Bangle subtlety and subdued but effective details.

Sadly it's this.

It's not the purchase price, or even the maintenance that puts me off. Spending that much on fuel every time would hurt, it's bad enough with the B3's £75 300mile fill ups.

That's not much of an increase is it... scratchchin

The low price is killing them off sadly - they are now being bought by knuckledraggers with the pre-purchase research skills of a dead walrus who either end up flogging them on even cheaper in a broken state after 6 months of neglect, or simply park them in a tree at 155mph.

I was told that an M5 isnt all that fast as it is Rear wheel drive and those cant corner and it is too heavy to accelerate well by an integra type R driver so maybe that has something to do with it?
If you want fast, it has to be a front wheel drive car doesn't it roflroflrofl

Ah but I don't cover many miles and my recent purchase (an RX7 FD) is only managing 15mpg and I don't like the lack of torque nor the noise.

I don't think the new M5 will affect the price of these I doubt many are in original owners hands who are thinking of trading up.

I think the continuing crap economy & petrol prices will continue to push prices down. I'll keep an eye out and maybe buy one around Xmas.
