The problem with E39's is that they were production line produced, not Garching hand finished like the previous models. Therefore decent 3.8's and good E28's are now being seen as must have M Power cars. M635csi's are also now worth good money. The E39 is going through a tough phase. For some owners the Vanos system is a worry and for others the potential for a serious bill is scary. If you have a decent specialist close by an E39 M5 is an amazing car, not too many rust issues, fast, comfortable, reliable and a great second car. Sure it is not an E34 or and E28, so not a classic as such but for space, pace and a great V8 there is nothing better. Buy well and you will be laughing, but with anything, houses, wine, boats, antiques etc....buy badly and there will be tears. Many have been driven hard, they are designed for fast long distance journeys and few have done much under 100k. Prices reflect this and as ever buy he best that you can afford. Look at used Lexus prices and anything with a big insurance value, a big thirsty V8 and rwd, unloved by the trade and people just don't have the money or credit they had three years ago.

IMO you can give a saloon a fancy name if you want to but at the end of the day it's just another expensive saloon with a big engine and high running costs.

AMGs and big Mcars will soon be challenging each other for the "Max Depreciation" annual awards.

It will be intereting to see how the M3 and 1M hold up over time, even though they are a more usable package.

I was told that an M5 isnt all that fast as it is Rear wheel drive and those cant corner and it is too heavy to accelerate well by an integra type R driver so maybe that has something to do with it?
A fwd drive with a lot of power car can never put all the power down as well as a rwd drive car so that is rubbish.

They can also suffer from torque steer.

That's why for example all these fiat coupe turbos with massive power are useless as they can't put the power down.

And generally rwd cars are better handling than fwd.

I'd imagine that same type r driver beats supercars off the line too and hits 230mph on the m25 laugh

What are the other options for a 5 seater V8 MANUAL.

I can't think of any, most of the competition are Auto only.

They are hardly comparable to M5 though but they certainly fit the brief.
