Time will tell. BMW have created some fabulous 'oddballs' over the years. Z3m coupe springs to mind...

This picture alone makes it look likes it's been in an accident or had a grand piano dropped on the back of it!

Nope, you'd be wanting next years Special Edition for that:

Ah, designed for pet undertakers, cool. That should go down well (excuse the pun) with the fashionistas when their doggie in a bag kicks it.. Brilliant, Daggerpie.

Why don't you? I mean it's not really that difficult.

Umm lets see, it's a COUPE, ie something stylish and less practical than a hatch. Over history there have been loads of these....

-MGB
-GT6
-Puma
-Integra
-Sera
-Fiat Coupe
-Tigra

I guess these are all beyond you too?

Seriously I don't understand why so many people have issues with MINI doing the same friggin thing as so many other.

OK, so the Puma had rear seats and a 1.7 engine not available in the fiesta, the Tigra had rear seats, the Fiat Coupe and Integra are totally different cars!!!!

The issue with the Mini Coupe is it's not different enough from the Hatch... there's no special engine etc.

I wouldnt buy it, i dont particularly like the look of it, but i do get it. It makes BMW yet more money and thats a pretty good reason for them to make it!! I dont care about dilution of the brand, because its not the original mini anyway.

I also like the idea of more interesting looking cars on the road and in car parks. Makes the world more interesting.

For my money though, i'd have the hatch version ta.

I agree and in earlier threads said that I see no real reason to buy one over a Cooper S. Of course they might now upsize or alter the MINI to differentiate it from the coupe.

That said, I can still see the point of it. Even if it takes 2 sales away from the Cooper S for every 'x' sold, if it then brings 4 or 5 new customers to the MINI brand then the net gains are higher and gives MINI a bigger market footprint.

It certainly is. Come on, just because you don't personally like it, doesn't mean it isn't.

It's not really my cup of tea either if honest. But despite looking very much regular MINI from the front, it's certainly paving it's own look overall. And won't be mistaken for anything else on the road.
We'll have to agree to disagree on this, then. It might not look like anything else on the road, but that doesn't mean it's a good thing. To my eyes at least, it's a genuinely ugly car.

BMW 3-series coupe's don't have special engines, they have the same as the saloon.

Doesn't mean the car's not good, and the engines aren't great anyway.
The 3-series coupe isn't really much less practical than the saloon either, though - it's not really a coupe at all, more a two-door saloon. And personally, I can't see much reason to buy a 3-series coupe over a saloon or a saloon over an estate, except the looks.

2 door saloon, coupe, whatever, doesn't change the fact that saying the coupe has the same engine as the saloon/hatch, therefore is no good, is a little bit silly.
I don't think people are saying it's no good, they're saying that it's only for people who buy cars, in large part, for their looks (at least I am). The 3-series coupe may be a very good car, but I'd still buy an estate; I just don't understand what the coupe offers over it. Same with the MINI, I can see no significant reason to buy this thing over a hatch.

But then plenty of people buy the 3-series coupe, so presumably plenty of people will buy this. Fashion sells cars as much, if not more, than more tangible aspects.

I'd buy a 1 Series coupe for the looks, I like coupes and saloons. 135i is also unique to the coupe I believe.

Like you've said, looks. But writing off the MINI coupe because it doesn't have a 'special engine' is just daft. It apparently handles better than the hatch, if we believe the review, and some people will think it looks better. What is there to not understand?
OK, "understand" was perhaps the wrong word. Lets amend that to saying that personally I cannot possibly imagine a set of criteria for which this would be on my short-list. I don't deny that it'll sell in droves, though.

I never said it was pointless though. It has one "point" and that is to make money for its maker, just like any other car.

You can have the Mini coupe, I'll take the Zonda. Everyone's a winner.

I didn't mean the Mini Coupe wasn't very good... I do just think it's a bit pointless.

Don't get me wrong, it will sell, I'm sure of that. I'd just love to know someones thought process in buying one!!!
