My 2007 Focus 1.8 Tdci feels like it's down on power when accelerating and the turbo is noisy when running. It's not a harsh mechanical noise, more of a whooshing sound, but it's certainly much louder than it used to be.

I got home after dark so haven't had a good look under the bonnet, does anyone know what the cause might be?

Thanks for looking.

Sounds like you have a leak on the pressurised side of the turbo (somewhere from Turbo to top hat), check for loose joints and splits in boost hoses.

I shall check those out.

I was hoping it was nothing too serious.

Cheers.

Most likely a spilt hose its quite common on them.

On my mondeo it was a split pipe which runs from the intercooler to the EGR valve/inlet manifold. Wasn't immediately apparent, I had to check it twice before I saw the 3" split. It was eventually given away by the fine oil mist which escaped from the split.
With the split hose the car was horrifically slow- couldn't even spin it's wheels from a standstill!

Sound exactly the same as my Mondeo TDCI, when the boost pipe split. Down on power, sound of turbo changed to a whoosh, and alot of smoke on acceleration. The pipe was well hidden down the back of the engine, and needed a ramp to get to it. Bout £55 for the pipe, maybe Ford planned it for some easy cash lol.

It's a car, not a horse.
