When your car has so much exhaust fumes that you can't drive for more than 10mins without the window being down?

All Minis I've been in are like this, well the ones with the centre exhaust mainly. But I'm just wondering how unhealthy it is to be driving cars like this?
I can still taste the fumes an hour or two after a drive as well. Nastyness.

Without or with the window down?

If the windows are up and you're getting gassed, it's very bad.

I had a catless Group. N exhaust on my old 106 Rallye, I had to drive 45 minutes with the hatch open carrying stuff, I felt very tired after 25 minutes and had to pull over to freshen up.

IIRC, early Minis had a similar problem when the bootlid was down ( extra luggage capacity on the move ) and they either modded the car somehow or removed the hinged numberplate facility.

Been a while since I had one though

I get really badly gassed if they're up and for this reason I never have them up.
You can taste them in traffic but when you're driving it is minor.

There was a woman who went to her doctor with resiratory problems and after a few tests she was asked how many ciggarretes she smoked a day. She replied none and the doctors were baffled because she had the lungs of someone who was smoking 50+ a day. Turned out her car was leaking exhaust fumes into the cabin and she had been breating it all in for ages.

Can't you fix the exhaust so it doesn't happen?

Edit: Maybe "fix" is the wrong word; "modify".

Maybe it'll be better for me because the windows are always down rain or shine.
And maybe I should buy a second car scratchchin

Just mend the exhaust?

Ive never had this issue with a mini.

If your referring to smelly engine caused by missing bungs on the bulkhead and engines that weep oil and breathe heavily either replace the bungs or live with it, it won't hurt you *much*

Exhaust is not broken. It's a new (few months old) complete system.
All centre exhaust Minis i've been in are the same.

Two options then:
1. Live with it; or
2. Get a better exhaust solution to make your car better than the others.

Have you checked your boot seal condition? That's sometimes an ingress point?

New seals all over the car as it was recently sprayed. Was like it with the original exhaust I had too.
