Ok. So. Estates under £1k.

What's good and what isn't?

Just interested in people's perceptions of old estate cars, really smile

£850 for a W reg astra.... :/

Not convinced that's a good buy, tbh.

I was more thinking of Q car type estates. 328s, T5s etc..

Got to be an old Volvo I think! Old Mercs seems remarkably expensive unless you want a box of cornflakes.

Can you do a decent Legacy for a bag?

Legacy's a good shout.

I do like the air of an old Volvo.

850 Estate is THE best you'll get for the money or maybe a GLT tank Volvo ?

W124 with high mileage would be a nice option aswell.

You could pick up an older A6 estate.

ETA: Something like this:

Struggling to find a decent volvo under a grand, at least in my area. It's all 1.8 V40s.

Not quite under a grand but paid £1250 for a Volvo V70 2.4 petrol, MY02, 128k on clock. Have since driven 2k miles across France and another 6k with work, all in last 4 months. Everything works as it should, air con, heated seats, cruise, has full leather, etc. Just flew through MOT yesterday with no faults whatsoever. A lot of car for very little money.

The best example of a decent estate / tourer on ebay at the moment it Mgmrw's 320 touring. Hah.

There's not a right lot of choice in this sector, tbh!

I always think of trusty old Subaru estates. They seem to be pretty much indestructable, and 4WD too!

Facelift omega deserves a mention IMO especially in 3.2 MV6 flavour. Had one years ago as a dogmobile/skip while doing the house up. Great value for money!

Well, if noone else has claimed one, I'll have a quite wonderful 156 Sportwagon.
