fking hell, check out the drama queens. I'm not suggesting you have to sit crying in your car, tears dripping on the steering wheel.

Why is it one extreme or the other with Pistonheads? Why is it either fury at the selfish bds who have dared disturb your journey with their moronic crash or a melodramatic wailing? Why, if you think people have been involved in an accident, can't you just sit in your car, accept that there is nothing you can do and do it without drama or whining?

I thought I was an argumentative prick at times but some of you lot in this thread really take the biscuit.
It's human nature to moan about things, get over it.

I live in Rochester and work near Gatwick. 45 mile commute, using the M2/A2, M25 and M23. Coming home I often use M23, M25, M26, M20, A228, which is about the same distance, but it avoids tailbacks from the Dartford tunnel, which often come back to M25 J4.

Usually the journey takes under an hour. Probably once a month or so it will take me 2-3 hours, if there's been an accident. So, not too bad really.

But what does it matter? Everybody moans about accidents, I moan about them & why shouldn't I? I don't know the people involved & one of them caused the accident in the first place.
Fine, you're right, I'm wrong. I just hoped there was a bit more human compassion in the world.
You have massivley over-simplified this. For a start, there are many many circumstances which might mean that he is not in a position to simply move house or change jobs. You spout forth this sage advice as though its as simple as changing your pants and socks.

Second, if you do commute on the M25, its not very long before you lose all patience for the traffic regardless of the cause and with it goes any compassion.

I dont see a single good reason for people to back their car in to the centre reservation of a straight piece of 3 lane motorway where everyone is going in the same direction. Im sorry for anyones loss (if there actually is any) but there is simply no excuse for this. And in the case of a freak accident, the resultant gridlock from one incident is inexcusable. Its entirely understandable to be frustrated by a transport infrastructure that is so delicately balanced that the slightest mishap or maintenance results in chaos.

I dont see a good reason for everyone to slam on the brakes because someone is at the side of the road changing a bloody tyre.

There is no excuse for slowing down to rubberneck at flashing lights on the opposite carriageway.

95% of the time, the variable speed limits are still in place for accidents that are long since cleared, non existent fog or inconsequential "debris".

Multiple lane closures for minute roadworks.

Panic braking for inoperational speed cameras or decoy speed camera signs.

Need I go on? So far, the only person lacking persepective on this thread has been you.

No doubt been a crash, and i am in a single lane with barriers either side so no exit...
Which is why I never use the contraflow lane. Something goes wrong in it and your stuffed.
Have to sgree the M25 is an absolute `mare` at the moment, was on it in the truck on Thursday, the roadworks around J28 were busy too. Still say though the biggest cause of congestion on there though is the damned river crossing, sit in a queue just to pay £3.70 for being stuck in it!

Sod the M25 - for sheer commuting hell I would rate the Blackwall Tunnel aka The Chasm of Despair. It has been the bane of my working life for the past 6 years. They have even stuck a sign outside to let us fortunate drivers know that the tunnel has more unexpected closures that days in the month....

Pure hell!!!

i think the m25 works, and does exactly what it was supposed to do, get you around london, in a smooth manner, with hardly any hassles, this is provided you travel between 12 and 4am, and thats still not to be taken for granted. outside these hours at the mo, it really is pretty awful, the major roadworks, combined with a large proportion of people not being able to use it correctly. its bad most of the time, but always seems to get really bad during the 6 weeks and christmas holidays. i've spent a large proportion of my working life on the poxy thing, and would hate to think how many hours of my life have gone forever sat stationery on it for one reason or the other over the last 15 years. which is why, i hardly do any uk work these days, roll on next saturday, off on tour round europe till christmas, the joy of much better motoring smile

I ride the m25 most days, hateful fking road, and there's barely any normal drivers on it in the rush hour. Tailgating is just awful on it these days, no matter what lane you are in, very stressful.

Actually the "Road to Hell". When I made my previous reference to Chris Rea I thought somebody would pick me up on it...
He apparently wrote the song to vent his own frustrations when stuck on the M25. Listen to the words, might even make you feel better next time you´re stuck there.
