Where to go for VW transporter for £15,000
Discussion
Hi fellow PH's. I am in the market for a VW transporter combi, (would love a sportline) for upto £15,000. I am looking at using this for both work and pleasure so it needs to be good to go and last a long while. Any body have any good suggestions as to where to start looking. VW Dealers don't keep stock that low priced and some of the specialist conversion companies make me nervous.
When I was buying mine (see profile...) I spent 8 months looking via Autotrader, PH classifieds and car auctions. Eventually I bought one via Autotrader but the 8 month search was basically because I wanted the moon on a stick. My budget was far less (£8.5k) and I needed a tailgate instead of twin/barn doors, but stick it out and you should find one privately.
Patience. I had none so had to pay a lot of money for my 174 Shuttle...
Bear in mind there's a massive price drop from the 174 to the 130, and from the 130 to the 2.0 models (104 and 84), and that the bigger engined ones are quite rare comparatively.
I got mine from:
http://www.m4vancentre.co.uk/ (from the minibus bit)
They were a pleasure to deal with, very competent, sorted out some bodywork and interior trim, prepped the van well etc, but they are fairly pricey.

Ditch the hideous alloys though and its miles away from you.
