Can I afford to buy a decent one/run it/insure it.
That's it.
So how many cars do you have? There are many cars out there that are not expensive to buy, run or insure. That's it.
I have a BMW E30. Decent one? Grand or two. Run it? peanuts. Insure it? depennds on many factors but a 325i is £350 fully comp for me.

Read that a couple of times and I'm not sure I understand...I have a BMW E30. Decent one? Grand or two. Run it? peanuts. Insure it? depennds on many factors but a 325i is £350 fully comp for me.
I was trying to encourage the OP, wasn't meaning to have a dig at anyone.

providing the bills are paid there is food in the kitchen and a roof above my head and the fact that i have no dependants my justification is quite simple. Then again for me its not just with a car its nice to book a week away or even treat SWMBO to something. providing it does not lead to debt why should you not spend your hard earned on something to make you smile
My same thought process. I have dependants who are continually fking up at just the wrong moment which then costs me time and money to fix so i am now too paranoid to actually get what i want.Like others have said before on this thread
'You only live once!'
Also phrases like
'You can't take it with you'
Spring to mind.
A few years ago I nipped down the newsagent near my parents for a paper, half hour later I was the proud owner of a VX220 Turbo from the Vauxhall dealer opposite!!
Live for the moment, you might get run over by a bus tomorrow! (But hopefully not!)
If you want it and you can realistically afford it why not?

Now my bank balance no longer starts with a minus, of course the first sensible thing to o is think about buying a second car. No partner or kids to think about, insurance is cheap an i have room for another car.
At the end of the day it makes me happy and is no different to people buying clothing, a new tv, a holiday etc that they want as opposed to need
