Gawd 'elp us if TG know about this lot, they'll probably start buying them to fill with water, tow caravans with or drop from a crane.

All in the name of good TV, of course.

One of the guys in my motor club back in the early 1980's had bought one of the old twin rear wheel ex-Boreham V6 Transit service barges, after they sold all the post-Escort stuff off and used it as his daily transport (as well as service barge for rallying)..... and later on in 1987, another guy in the club bought one of the ex-ARG Motorsport Rover V8 powered Sherpa service vans off of BL after Group B finished.

It wasn't unknown for them to partake of service barge racing biggrin

As the meme has it: Do. Want. So very much.

I would keep that one just to look at though, use the white one for trips to the shops. Obviously.

I had a cracking red E plate XR2, I only sold it a couple of years back and still kind of wish I hadn't, I also had the privilege to do a bit of rallying in a Sierra Cosworth

Loving the collection btw

My grandad was telling me how he had a lotus cortina when my dad was small, this would have been early 60's, he paid £150 for it and only sold it because he blew the carb or something he was saying, sold it for £400 for parts frown I'll see if he has any pics!

Cars and Car Conversions (CCC) tested the 'works' service barges back in the day. A highly amusing article, and demonstrated how stupidly quick some of them really were. If I dig about in the loft, I probably (definitely!) still have the magazine. The Dealer Team Vauxhall Bedford CF won, IIRC; it was 'sorted' by Blydenstein and I can vouch that fully laden, it comprehensively outran the Fiat 128 3p that I had at the time......

I turned down the chance to buy a genuine MkII Cortina Savage for £180 in 1973, mint and almost unused. With the 3 litre V6 engine in a 2-door shell and Lotus running gear, these were converted by Geoff Uren and are now highly collectable.

£180. I should be shagged with a raggy flue-brush for saying 'No'!

The Zephyr Six in the fourth picture (VHK 194) was the one which Maurice Gatsonides used to win the 1953 Monte Carlo Rally.

Remember him? He invented the Gatso speed camera......

No it isn't, it's a replica.

People need to read the stuff under the pics.

Big apologies - I've just realised there is a script under each picture. Thought I was bringing you breaking news, as it were, from my brain full of motoring trivia.

A good replica though smile Slightly lower compression engine these days (because the old ones kept going pop) but still triple carbed with that, er interesting 3 speed column change.
