What are the 0-60 times of the two cars?
Yes. I wasn't sure which model I wanted. In the end, I spent November 2010-February 2011 looking at different MX5s. I found that a lot of the mk1's were in bad nick, a lot of mk2's were overpriced and the mk3 pretty underwhelming on all counts.

I had the benefit of a horrendous winter, which meant that the best car I had looked at, a green 1.6 mk2 I first viewed in November, was still there in february when I went to buy it. The mk1's and mk2's were the best drives, and mk3 didn't even come into it once I'd driven a couple. In the end, I preferred the looks of the mk2 but also the fact that they tended to be in better shape. Not to say I didn't see a few 2004 models with hideously rusted arches...

Erm.... so you comprehensively drove all three yet still ended up buying the least impressive MX5 of the whole bunch? Mmmkay.

OP you need better tyres.
Tend to agree. I cross the A5 regularly and even in wet conditions I don't recall spinning the wheels.

Seem to recall Contis were OEM fit. Will check when it's light.

It was definitely the best. The sharpest handling, the best engine, the best interior and exterior styling, the best value for money and much easier to find in good condition.

As I mentioned before, the mk1's were good but often in shocking condition. Even imports, that were advertised as being fantastic due to Japan's lack of road salt, were in dire condition when you got there, an inspection of the paperwork revealing they were imported a decade ago...whoops! laugh

And the mk3's were considerably more expensive, bloated and less fun to drive. As I said, I took a long time choosing which one I wanted and I went for the best. I know the mk1's are the most popular but I wasn't going to spend my money on winning PH approval, I just wanted the best car for my cash. smile
