If we're being pedantic, surely a lift - even a 'confidence' one - means you're not flat confused
There seem to be three possibilities .........

1) You've never been round Copse in a really superfast aero car.

2) You have been round Copse in a really superfast aero car and you didn't mind/were allowed having all four wheels off track.

3) If you're not lifting at all from Woodcote right through Copse, you've got balls like melons and/or you're running an F1 car nowadays.

The momentary lift just before Copse is not a confidence lift, it is to make sure you're properly under power through it; flat means pedal to the metal using perhaps 500rpm pick up as you go through Copse.
I totally get what you're saying - what I'm talking about is tongue-in-cheek semantics

(still a lift, though wink )

Righto ........... something for you to pencil into your diary for 2012.

Passenger ride in an SR8RX, Silverstone GP Circuit.

There's only one condition ........... your melons will need to be squeezed and I know just the gal for the job .......... the effect of cutting onions ........ pah, a mere trifle in comparison.

No lame excuses accepted.

Right guys, I hope to update this a fair bit over the weekend, but I'll just throw a few words/photos from Jim Cameron himself;

Apologies for the x-post from a Nurburgring website, but I need to keep a few places up to date!;

About time, I guess that I start a thread. Mazda have given me a car, support team and entry in the Britcar 24hr at Silverstone next week. Amazing offer...

As many of you know, I've raised money in the past for various charities - and many of you have helped me in the past. I had recently visited H4H's HQ in Tidworth, which is like walking into the inside of a papier mache balloon - the building is covered - wallpapered - in press clippings. There's everything up there, guys on Everest, at the poles, making cakes to sell, running a mile. But the only wheels in any of the pictures are on wheelchairs.

So I am running the car to raise the profile of British Armed Forces Charities in motorsport. We are highlighting the work of five in particular - The Not Forgotten Association – one of the 2011 chosen charities for the RAF Typhoon Display Team, of which Mazda is the 2011 vehicle sponsor, Help for Heroes, the 'Soldiers’ Charity' - the Army Benevolent Fund, the Forces Children's Trust and Scotty's Little Soldiers.

The latter is a charity started by the widow of a 2RTR soldier, killed two summers ago in Helmand doing the job that I've just brought my Squadron back from. Almost intact.

Almost.

The team includes 2 Northloopers - me, and Will Browning, ex Sgt in the Royal Signals and now a policeman in Hackney. He's not on here much these days as he's been too busy working in London (living in that crazy van Andy and he made) and legging it back home to Bath where he's bought a house with Sacha and, just 5 days ago, became a Dad. He's not got time to do Stockhatch so he's been drifting the Team Nankang Sierra which now sports cut springs and a welded diff. The man is a ****ing legend

My new bezzie mate is driver #3, Mike Hickson. Mike is a keen racer, ARDS instructor (for the Ferrari Owner's Club, no less) and races a Mallock in Classic Clubman - winning the championship back in 2004. He also gets to race other people's Classics, and when I needed a tank transporter, he got one. Mind you, as he is a Brigadier and the Director of the Royal Logistics Corps you'd hope that he would be able to... Top bloke.

Lastly, guaranteeing us good PR and coverage on Sky and Sky.com is the TV presenter, Tony Jardine. He's absolutely charming... hugely experienced and very quick.

This is fecking exciting.... my name is on the door

I'll talk about the car, the support team and stuff in due course, but really... this thread is overdue. It is really exciting stuff - and I'll be on my way to Silverstone in under a week Test day Thurs 29th Sep, Qually Fri afternoon and NIGHT... then race Sat - Sun 1-2 Oct.

Join us!

How can you help? Well, I'm not going to get much chance to wander around with a collection bucket - success here is in TV coverage and column inches generated (steady on Dave). If you can help generate any press - that would be amazing, please get in touch. However, we do also have a donations page with more team detail and stuff on it here:

http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/ForcesMX-5

...so if you'd just like to bung the charities a few quid and leave a rude message for the world to see please, go for it!

You'll also be able to follow the car during the race online - we'll have a page with live GPS tracking of whatever gravel trap I'm sat in... the timing will all be online.

Here's them 'testing' last week

JIM;

I've just sent the drivers off to bed. What a day...

Night Qualifying

At about 7pm, I got to relax after a pretty insane day. So I wandered around with the camera.

Pit walk

As the sun goes down, we start to get an impression of just how dark it is going to be

Then Tony is in the car first for qualifying. Mike is next up, chatting to him as he settles in the car, waiting for the off

In case anyone behind has their phone on them, and some time on their hands...

19:58 Rich is in the pitlane, ready to get the car out as soon as qually starts

The ducting is to direct fresh air into the driver's face. Despite being open, it is amazingly hot in the car

Qually starts. We are off

Just so you can all keep track of the mighty Mx5 blasting round over the 24hours!! biggrin

Jim has told me there will be more to come, and I'll try to keep you all updated as it happens (work permitting, unfortunately!) - I can confirm that these are absolutely top blokes, doing a top job for a great cause and in a PH favourite Mx5. What more could you want? If you can spare a few quid to such a great cause, please do, it is all appreciated.

Heres to a great race!! beer

It is indeed an awesome photo!!

Updato!

There has been an incident with a CSL - no idea what/ how bad, but the latest I have heard is that the team are dismantling a PR person's road car mx5 for bits. Should be back out there soon. Very resourceful these forces lot. thumbup

Updates on twitter from 'tankslider' - who is Jim Cameron or tankslider on here. hehe

Such a shame that it has happened, they were solidly running at a decent pace and working their way up. Hopefully some cool, quick, uneventful lapping through the night will get them back up there asap!

Just a timely reminder as they join forces to get back on track;

This was quite interesting to watch. The PR girl was not best pleased. hehe

Good to see the car get back on the grid, though. thumbup

Will try and get a full report from Jim Cameron. I suspect he'll either post up once fully recovered or hopefully get PH to have a write up in the main news section.

Great race. smile
