A3 2.0TDI sport 3dr or 116i M Sport or 116d se?

What company car would you have?
The 116i M Sport only does 44mpg whereas the A3 does 68mpg and the 116d se does 64mpg.
In terms of company car tax the A3 and 116d are better than the 116i Msport too.
This is not the new new 1 series.
My thoughts are the A3 2.0TDI as it's reasonably quick, good on fuel and I think it looks better than a 1 series even though it may not be as good dynamically.
There is also the consideration of the A3 1.6tdi 99gm/km which does 74mpg but not sure if that would be too slow.
Not bothered about practicality or space.

116i will not do 44MPG unless they have made dramatic changes to the engine. I had a 54 plate 116i Sport and if you drove gently you could average 34MPG.
It was also dog slow, 0-60 in nearly 11 seconds. Although I do believe they upped the power in later versions, so this post may be useless to you!

thanks chaps, yeah the a3 is a bit 'old hat' i suppose it has been out a while but the BM is also being replaced too.
I don't really like either and can't really muster much enthusiasm for any of them - a 123d M sport or A3 Black Edition would be much better imho.
However, don't want to pay to 'trade up' as that makes the point of a company car not be that worthwhile.
I think I may just go down the route of the Audi as that is what the masses have said, although the BMW seems a better drivers car but let's face it neither are true drivers cars and 99% of the time will be on a motorway!

What a crap pair of cars to choose from. The 116d is an absolute dismal miserable slug of a thing and the A3 is a completely unremarkable and overpriced stodgy pudding. I cannot think of two more un PH cars.
We have one of each as pool cars in work, chosen by junior salest
ts in polyester suits who have now left. Sometimes, when all the good cars are gone, I have to drive one through mid wales. I've been known to put the journey off a day or two rather than take the 116d. The A3 is much less painful, as it's not so gutless.

Don't know how much (or if you'd be allowed to) extra you could go, but I kept trying to get the OH to stretch as far as a 318/320d.
they're changing the 3 seriesyes, i know they're all not great chaps but to me a new 3 series saloon is just about as 'reppy' as you get even though an A3/1 series are not much better.
I fully agree though that a 3 series is a better car but for whizzing into parking spaces etc they are a bit big given that only one person will be in it all the time

interesting to hear that people think the A3 is much quicker, it's not the 170 version but the 140.
To be honest even the 116d would be enough for me, I don't want a quick car really as I don't want to be tempted to speed.

Drive one before you decide it'd be enough. It's very frustrating, it feels like the handbrake is on all the time, or you're towing a trailer load of cement. It's not so bad when you're going at a steady speed, but if you want to overtake on an A road you will find opportunities few and far between.
I don't dislike my OH's 116d.
She's had it about 18 months, during which time it has averaged around 47mpg despite doing a lot of town work - more like 54-55 on the motorway when keeping speed to sensible levels and we saw 63mpg on the OBC on a long A9 trip in Scotland a few weeks ago.
It's quite refined and rides a lot better than my car. It is *not* fast though and definitely feels slower than my sister's Golf TDI 105 despite supposedly having more power and torque. It's perfectly adequate on the motorway (2000rpm at sensible speed so in power band) but I often find it wanting in situations where you want to overtake!
