I know it has been discussed but it still never ceases to amaze me when you see people sticking M badges on non-M cars. But today I saw an extremely strange fake badge arrangement:

A new e90 bmw 3-series, with a "335d" badge next to an "M" badge. Now not only is a 335d not an M-car, the car was clearly not a 335d as it only had one oval sooty exhaust and not the twin exhaust (one pipe either side) seen on a 335d.

Talk about having your cake an eating it!

What do people say, when somebody comes over and enquires about how it is to drive a 335d? or even a 335d M at that? Do they just play along with the illusion / lie?

He could have had some M/ BMW-Performance parts on it, like the brakes etc and felt he had the right to stick it on?

What about the 318TI I spotted with an M badge on the other day?

Erm same again? Did you not go around the sides and check the brakes or look on under the bonnet for M goodies on his sleeper warrior? tongue out

Whatever, if that is your take on it. My main point wasnt really the M Badge. It was the fact he had labelled his car as a 335d. and it wasn't. Strange.

It you actually see someone sticking it on (as opposed to the amusingly tosspottish result) then you have my permission to go and "educate" them.

I know what you're getting at. I actually drove past a red Toyota MR2 with Ferrari badges on this afternoon, you'd have to be a total idiot to fall for that but someone who's stuck a 335d badge on the back of their car would probably trick more people. Joe Public isn't looking out for twin exhausts, they're more concerned about the badge.

Saw a really nice looking E34 525 tonight in town, only spoiled by the M badge next to the 525 and a full on M5 badge on the other side of the boot lid.

I've said it before but there is a gorgeous 335i I go past everyday on the way to work... ruined by a wonky ///M badge next to the 335i badge.

You have a 335i M Sport... it's a bloody nice car with a huge amount of performance... why do you still have to "act as if"?!

Can you not choose an M Sport option (formerly CI) on any engine size?

http://www4.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

I've got a really old crappy e46 Coupe 320, but it had an optional factory upgraded body kit, so it has an 'M' on the steering wheel and gear knob. But nothing on the bodywork.

I wonder if the factory / dealer ever put the M badge on the bodywork to show its an M Sport?

Agreed, I'd rather have the q status.

And these guys who know an awful lot about 3 series can do a fantastic job making it into a serious weapon.

I didn't mean to be confrontational earlier, but I was just saying. As there is a guy on here with a E46 with a V8 and he has changed the badges around to his new engine size.

Am I the only person who thinks a car that is completely de-badged looks a damn sight better than one with badges on, lease of all FAKE badges??

Seen a Mini with M power badges on.

M stood for 'Muppet', clearly.

This is one reason why the 1M can look (cheap?) from the rear, at least till you look at the exhausts and width of the rear tyres to realise it's likely justified.

Thing with that is, it's not got an M badge on it, and in fairness, anyone who looks and has half a clue, will double take at 357i - certainly made me have a little chuckle to myself.
