With that level of product insight I'd say you've not been within 200 yards of an XFR...
It's a magic motor - and can easily hold it's own in the company photographed here.

They are all far too heavy, its only tyre technology that keeps them on the road.Look how the original E28 was perceived as being lethal in the wrong hands.Because it simply has a lower grip to power ratio...
No one who drives these new cars at 60mph down a twisty road would be impressed, they are utter wk unless driven on the limit with a Hiroshima pluming off the back end.
Might Aswell buy a 520d and a lightweight for the weekend.
I disagree. I don't think there is much difference in dynamic ability between one of these and a C63. Now my C63 is very impressive at 60mph down a twisty road thank-you-very-much and all of these cars would have a much better ride than the hard as nails teeth cracking ride my car has so it's win win as far as I'm concerned. I know they aren't as dynamic as an Elise or a Caterham but the experience of unleashing 400+ hp of V8 on a twisty road will never lose it's appeal. I also frequently travel four-up and I am sure everyone enjoys the sound of the V8 far more than they would a 4 cylinder diesel.

That'll be 'my' C63....right? Still the best one in the UK I reckon I also frequently travel four-up and I am sure everyone enjoys the sound of the V8 far more than they would a 4 cylinder diesel.

I'm also someone who has just bought an XFR and I've got to say I'm pretty impressed (well, after 5 days ownership anyway...theres plenty of time to change my mind!). It's pretty much as quick as anything I've had except the 997 Turbo but it goes down the road (a good old crappy British road) much better than most...Jag really do know suspension and how to make a car sharp to drive, relatively roll-free AND compliant. Its ability to glide across the blacktop doesn't stop it having a very pointy front end that you can pin to an apex almost as well as my M3 could (OK, maybe not AS good, but not far off and especially impressive given it weighs nigh on 400kg's more), a tail happy arse-end that makes roundabouts great fun and it's a fantastically refined and comfortable motorway car.
So, the bog Jaaaaag is very fast, it handles, it's so smooooth, it looks good, it's nicely made (and rattles less than any other car I've had...i.e. not at all!!) and it's got a lovely modern, contemporary interior in which to spend ones time sat in traffic. Oh, that B&W stereo Jag fit is frighteningly good!
So, of all the cars I've had, the XFR is probably the best all-rounder and yet despite this, (and I can't put my finger on why) I reckon it still can't top adeelsters' C63 which was and still is my favourite car I've ever owned (and since I sold that a year ago, the XFR is my 4th car after having gone through a 911 Turbo, Maserati GTS and another BMW M3....one day, I will find happiness )
My choice out of the 3 in the Autocar group test (as a brand-new, cost-no-issue purchase) would be the E63 but for the way it looks. The CLS 63 AMG fixes that problem but then creates another....it's £25k too expensive The XFR on the other hand is an absolute bargain...just don't buy one brand new at list price!

I can't keep up with your cars Palmball. Not sure you can either! Actually I'm sure my C63 isn't 'yours'. I love it but it certainly isn't the best in the country...'boggo' silver estate with no PP. I've heard your colour choices are a little more...exotic! Is your XFR a facelift model? I know there weren't really any mechanical changes but I love the new look lights (strangely enough I don't like the facelifted XKR). How does the sound compare to the AMG V8?

Doh! at me...I'm getting you mixed up with someone who bought my C63 No, not a facelift as the 'old' shape is such a bargain....the discounts on the new ones aren't good enough to make up for the horrendous depreciation (not the way I change cars anyway)...I do prefer the looks of the new model so we'll see how much I like this one over the next few months before I splash out on a new shape. More likely that I get a CLS63 when they've dropped a bit more (well, a lot more)
The sound is pretty good actually...it does have a 'proper' V8 sound but I wish the supercharger was a it more prominent (I have plans for that though ). As good as an AMG sound? Nah....not a chance!

totally agree. it seems many people have forgotten the point of these super saloons. they aren't meant to be out and out sports cars, they aren't meant to be full on barges, they aren't meant to be the last word in sportiness etc. they just do everything very, very well and are superb compromises. not the best any any single thing, but the best at doing everything.I also frequently travel four-up and I am sure everyone enjoys the sound of the V8 far more than they would a 4 cylinder diesel.

I own a 2010 XFR, we decided on the Jag after testing the competition(E class AMG, Audi RS6, Maser Quattroporte and last gen BMW M5).Back to the Jag; load of rubbish, feels utterly cheap and as if it was put together buy a bunch of cowboys! the other two cars blow it out of the water on all aspects....is the Jag any fast in a straight line? We needed performance, comfort, practicality, each as important as the other. The merc had a great engine but looks quite boring inside and a bit OTT outside for our tastes, the M5 was sadly not that great a drive when you were not nailing it, the gearbox was horrible and it was also a bit dated inside, the Maser looked great inside and out, sounded great but really was noticeably slower than the rest which leaves the Audi which was mentally fast, subtle yet handsome from the outside, shone with quality and looked great inside but felt every bit of its 2 ton (ish) weight. We went for the jag because it looks subtle yet smart ( we picked black), had a gorgeous interior that frankly looks a generation ahead of the others (except the Audi), was ridiculously comfortable, very practical and moves like st off a shovel, I mean when you want to ''proceed'' the Jag is stunning Oh yes and it handles like a much smaller car, very agile and so confidence inspiring i've even had the other half get the tail out on a couple of occasions.
The car has now done 10,000 miles and has been 100% perfect, it is the best all round car we have ever owned and I've had 911's, M3's etc in the past and also run a Vantage so I understand what makes a car good.
I can only assume this poster (above) has never driven the XFR, or the competition, or perhaps has some personal problem with Jaguar.
Oh yes, and its British!

But seriously, I absolutely adore the E63, and I would take it (with the performance pack, which gives you ~550bhp to match the BMW) any day of the week. So much more muscular than the Jag especially which I personally like. And it sounds like nothing other than produce courtesy of Affalterbach.
