So thats how Chris Harris affords his cars

I've read Chris' work and seen his videos on autocar and driver's republic for years and years and I never wondered or cared. But recently on an old autocar review, someone brought it up, and surmised that he was from Cyprus and I suppose my (mild) curiosity about it started then

As others have said far more eloquently than I could, this is probably one of the most tragic threads I have cast my eyes over.
Please someone put it out of its misery.

Doesn't anyone get it this thread is pretty much where people are going/thinking with respect to new cars- a whole lot of numb, careless, off topic pedantry in lue of something they can really get excited about. As others have said far more eloquently than I could, this is probably one of the most tragic threads I have cast my eyes over.

Recommendation: complete redux of the the industry asap! That means grassroots performance cars and journalism, and no more techno drones lapping round and round the ring. j

Oh FFS eric, i hardly said it was an all-consuming matter in my life and I'm not a Daily Mail or Sun reader. Someone just mentioned it a while back and as someone who is "ethnic" myself I wondered about it for a while and thats that. As others have said far more eloquently than I could, this is probably one of the most tragic threads I have cast my eyes over.

Currently, I dont give a toss about if David Cameron smoked marijuana at uni but if someone mentioned that he did, or wondered if he did, I too might start to become mildly curious about it considering his conservative beliefs, etc.
I do find it 'tragic' that the thread went on for over 20 pages however. I recall that same question was posed on the evo forums and there were a few responses and that was it

Embarrassing thread for PH, endless speculation about one bloke's finances that won't ever be answered. Lock it!
+1Come on mods, do the decent thing.
This is no different from the 'How much do you earn' threads?
Or
'What percentage of your annual income do you spend on cars?'
Or
'What's the most you would currently spend on a car?'
Or
'How do you fund your car habit'
Nothing wrong with speculating over Monkey's intriguingly clever vehicle acquisition methods, he's an interesting public figure and probably enjoys the speculation, most would.
Discuss away chaps and the nay sayers can opt to stay away.
Simples

I remember an article he wrote years ago saying that in the mid 90's he put an order in for an Elise before they were even announced. On the way home from picking it up he stopped at a set of lights where someone asked him if he'd consider selling it for far more than the asking price. So he did, and has done similar things ever since.
In his position he doubtless hears about cars such as the 4.0 GT3 long before us proles and is able to get a speculative order in- which he then either keeps for a while and sells at a profit, sells the build slot, or keeps for a while and takes a bath on (like the oft mentioned Gallardo). I'm sure he does other things than write about cars to earn some cash- didn't he also mention that a spin at the N24 lost him a podium and cost him several thousand Euros in prize money?
I'm also suprised about the high and mighty attitude some folks have here- he wanted the car and worked out a way to get it, even if it's only for a short while. It's his money, his life, so why not?
But in the grand scheme of things I'm glad that there are people like Chris and Harry buying these cars and writing about them. Life would be very dull otherwise.

Having started this thread my intention was just to put to bed the ongoing debate about how Chris financed his cars. Chris had put the information into the public domain and I thought folks on here would welcome the infor and therefore the speculation would end. I in no way imagined that he would provoke such examination.
Guys the facts are as stated, let’s just take it on board, congratulate Chris on his new motor and move on. The end

They were cheap. But they're worth a lot more than I paid for them, even after a year's worth of use. I spent the money I saved on coke and hookers.HTH
HTH.
You're slipping mate, I shouldn't have to do this for you.
