How do you afford your cars Chris.
HTH
They were cheap. But they're worth a lot more than I paid for them, even after a year's worth of use. I spent the money I saved on coke and hookers.HTH
HTH.
You're slipping mate, I shouldn't have to do this for you.
Just spotted this.
Top motoring journalist. Really enjoy his reviews.
Hope he lets François Delecour take him for a spin in it.
If he turns it in 9 months good luck to him.
Perhaps Porsche have let him have it for a better price (with various conditions)? An acquaintance got one of the first Murcielago’s for the equivalent of about £70k direct from the factory; he has close ties with them.
We all know this car won’t be losing any value. It will remain above full price for the foreseeable future.
I wish him well to drive it. Look forward to reading about his experiences.

So... ECOTY just dropped on my doormat. Anyone care to take a wild stab at which car is #1, top dog, el supremo...?
I don't work for EVO, but let's just put this in perspective before the madder of our resident conspiracy theorists run wild with this one, shall we?1. There are other journalists who work for EVO and who were involved in the piece, both in driving the cars and coming up with the decision on what should win COTY. It's the EVO performance car of the year issue, not the Chris Harris performance car of the year issue.
2. I haven't driven it, but everyone who has does think that the 4.0 is a bit special. So it shouldn't be too much of a surprise that noted performance car manufacturer Porsche's current most notable performance car has won the EVO (the magazine about performance cars) performance car of the year trophy. Should it?

Stupid question, could he not be quids in? As this is a rare car, and it may go up in value?
Having seen Chris' tweets this week there do seem to be some people who think they have gone up in value - http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/list.asp?s=858&am...Stuart said:

I have absolutely no doubt it is an awesome machine, make no mistake. And a bit of ECOTY action can't harm residuals either. Just sayin'.
The winks are all very well, but this sort of nonsense is what prevents people like Chris from taking part in the discussion more often on PH...Stuart said:

Come now, I'm sure he's a big boy and is thicker skinned than that. There obviously isn't a conspiracy, everyone rates it and most people will know he's putting his money where his mouth is and accord him respect. In car journalist that's a rare trait. I swapped a few emails with a journo a while ago and he knew of people who've always managed to run a fleet car and never put their own money into anything. Predictable but also depressing, especially as most of Evo seem to pour a fair wedge of their hard-earned into cars (especially 'Classics'/boyhood heroes). I've emailed to this effect before but I wish they'd expand the "everyday" type features as IMO it's much more interesting reading about their restorations and what they use every day rather than getting the feeling there is some kind of supercar malaise permeating their offices. Instead I have to read Octane to see a few of the more interesting garage projects...
Fewer watches, more real-world cars please.

Not just on this issue, every thing has to have some hidden meaning or motive.Aaargh!
EVO has consistently rated GT3s as the best drivers car available at any price and you know what they're probably right.None of us can possibly have driven the range of contenders back to back for many miles like a journo on a car magazine has so what makes us all such experts. If they have driven them all back to back on suitable roads and their collective opinion is that the 4.0 is the best then surely you have to take them at their word.
Today its Chris Harris and his "personal" car, 6 years ago Harris wasnt even at EVO but the sniffy moaning about prejudice was just the same.
its the the moaners who are prejudiced not the Magazine.

Let us resurrect this thread, in the 8 years since the last post CH has bought (and sold) quite a few other cars.
Maybe we should list all of them?
As far as Porsche is concerned, I think maybe he has good connection to Porsche, so like any smart Porsche dealer he buys rare cars (like 911R), drives them for a bit, then sells them for a premium.
