Me too - that's what I did with the new Cali. I did stop at claying the whole thing immediately and some do! Did polish it all though with Zaino Z5 Pro (my favourite polish/sealant).

I simply don't trust garages!

Don't some cars have some kind of stoppers in the suspension pre PDI? It does look a wee bit high. Very nice though - best looking current BM. Which is impressive as I thought the old 6 series was a bit of a minger!
people clay without washing first

i'm really sad, i use IronX and then tardis the whole car before polishing hehe

i use gtechniq C1 on my car, best sealant on the market wink

anyway, off out now so have a good'un everyone!

being the anal detailer that i am, i'd request them not to prep it at all, and let me deal with it.
I wish I had as it really spoilt the "new car feel"

Well I had my 640d m sport for a few days last week and I was quite impressed, the mpg wasn’t as good as expected 33mpg over 600 miles, the car however was new so doubt will loosen up in time.
It was seriously quick and in sport mode handled very well.
It certainly wasn’t worth the £75k, it felt pretty cheap inside but as an every day car it was pretty good.
Now, I currently have a 7 series and 355 spider and I had hoped that I could replace both of these with one car the 640d.
Unfortunately I also drove a Granturismo 4.7 whilst I had the 6, and there was no comparison ( I had a 4.2 at launch) the GT was much quicker and far more exciting a real car to get the heart beating.
So no matter how much I try and be sensible and just have the sensible option I just don’t think I can do it no matter how good the deal is.
I think I am probably going to wait another year keep the 7 and buy the 4.7 GT next year, may even buy a 993 cab for a year to get my everyday soft top thrills, suspect I wouldn’t loose much in a year

think it might be - had a strange rubber mat in the drvers footwell. just hope their valet prep guy doesnt screw the paint up!
Well if they are as crap as my local dealer they will! My 5 series was delivered covered and I mean covered in swirlmarks and holograms, I hope you fair better.

They put an 8" crack in the windscreen on my 123d coupe and somehow snapped one of the number plates too, fortunately i noticed it before driving the car away.

The problem BMW have is convincing people that it is a £75k car after devaluing it with £400pm deals!
They have totally shot themselves in the foot.IMO !

Perhaps but I would have jumped at that deal had I been in the market, then again wouldn't we all.

I have started to see quite a few on the road so it's worked from that angle.

Yes but after seeing those deals for £400 would you buy one for £75k ?

No, but I wouldn't have anyway regardless but it's a steal at the lease price.

Put it another way if Porsche did the 991 at £500pm would it put you off owning one at £85k?

Well if I missed out on the deal I'd be peeved, but I think there is more emotion involved in buying a 911 than a diesel 6 series and if you want one then you'll do the deal you can at the time you get it, but I take your point entirely.

I think Porsche would have more to lose doing that deal than BMW has in terms of perceived value.

It certainly has now because BMW have turned themselves into reps car rental company!

All collected and tucked up in the garage.

First a big thumbs up for Sytner Oldbury. They comprehensively battered anyone else both in terms of a)trade in given on the M6, b)lease price on the 640d, and c)speed/response/way of doing business. If you are looking at a new BMW, please speak to Nick Cunningham, and tell him Ed sent you. Top fella.

The car seems to have been prep'd very well. No swirls or marks. I hadnt realised that they were going to supagurd (inside and outside), and was a bit worried about this, as the general consensus is (for paint) this product is generally pants, and even worse generally made worse by poor (quick) application. It will get a coat of decent wax regardless.

I'll do a proper review in a week or 2, but so far I'm really impressed. All beautifully put together, silky smooth. Pull from low revs is very impressive, with a really serious amount of shove from bugger all revs (I guess 600NM of torque from 1500 revs would be the reason for that!)

Unlike the SMG in the M, gear changes are very smooth too. Of course it is no V10, but the noise when pressing on is very un-diesel like. Despite running on bigger wheels than the M (20's), the ride quality is excellent.

Driving back from Brum, doing between 70-90, the car averaged 46mpg. Pretty happy with that to be honest.

More to follow.

All sounds good! Hope my experience on collection matches yours. 46mpg is an excellent start too! Was that flicking between the modes?

Sounds great! Bought mine fro Sytner Leicester and they were excellent too. Mine was also Supagarded (it wasn't brand new) and I was fairly impressed - they also gave me a "Pro kit" worth about £150 which is mostly very useful.

Ross - I'll do the usual snow foam/dry/etc then clay, then seal. Takes ages so I usually do it in stages. Find Bilt Hamber very good and you can use a water sprayer as lube rather than mucking about with detailing spray.

Edo - can't wait to see some pics. This is currently my favourite BMW.

the bilt hamber clay is really good, it's what i use smile and as you say, water for lube (oo err, missus etc) just means it's easier.

turns out we do have a few things in common smile

Yes, messing about between modes - bit of cruise, few "tests" of acceleration smile

Yes, got the superguard kit too, which was a nice bonus.

Only a 3rd of a tank of fuel though - getting slack in my negotiating skills!

As for such a large coupe, if it was my money, it'd have to be a petrol engine. The sound of a diesel engine is the sound of disappointment.
Completely agree on the sound of the engine, but I just can't fight the figures. You'd have to be mental to opt for the petrol in this case - even if you're not bothered about the better range or emissions, then what about the loss of torque in the petrol as compared to the diesel? I'd categorically much rather have a petrol car 9 times out of 10, but in this instance there is literally no justification for it.....

loss of toque but more revs thus no real loss. the foot flat to the floor in any given gear at any given road speed wouldn't vary that much between turbo diesel and turbo petrol. just the petrol is smoother and sounds nicer....but drinks more.
