I quite like these for their wolf in sheep's clothing style / performance.

What's the boot like? It looks to be quite decent from the outside but I wonder if its actually as big as it looks?

Subaru Impreza STi. Not to sure about the reliability, heard that some have a tendancy to munch their engines. Anyone know how common engine problems are?

Hot hatches are out. Aside from being slightly embarrassing, they'd feel like a big step backwards. Not sure I could stomach running the old Porsches either - as said, that could be a world of financial trouble.

Not the tidiest but shows the slk55 can be had for £16k http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3275924.htm

Only an auto but an itch worth scratching on the otherside of a caterham type car. I've been on a similar hunt. It's worth going for something extreme rather than trying to tick all the boxes - caterhams are a bit pricey for me compared to an exige with a roof but smiles per miles in both I reckon smile
