The throttle delay on my 2001 330ci isn't too bad tbh. It's not the easiest car to launch from a standing start and does kangaroo a tad at very low speeds but once moving the response is pretty quick.

Don't forget the old M20 2.5 as used in e30 beemers. A basic old lump but pretty responsive with it - great noise as well.

2.8i Capri's weren't too tardy either.

Arent those gtv`s put together with stickers and gum though?
They're well enough screwed together.

...it's just that too many of the bits screwed together are soluble. frown

If it's lasted until now, it should be one of the better ones. But you are looking at more or less a 30 year old car with that, and I had heard somewhere that body panels are starting to get scarce. A 75 V6 might be a bit easier to take care of.

The GTV I'd want, though, would be an SA 3.0:

Do many of the Chapparals (sp?) exist?
Remember being intrigued by the write-up in Performance Car about them

E46 330 was not that responsive, but having owned one I don't relate to some of those really dramatic tales of huge delay.

...but the 3.2 straight six from the M3 / Z4M is superb in terms of response and delivery.

The M3 CSL is as responsive as anyone could possibly want. As is the 997 C2S, which is also marginally smoother when rung-out.

But the drivetrain of a car has no effect on how good an engine is.

Best at what? Power? Noise? Reliability? etc, etc.

Can't include the Skline GTR's then if it's only RWD for example.
The Skyline was RWD-only until the R32, even if you're ignoring the RWD models beyond that.
Yes but he clearly says skyline GTR's, not just skylines.
Of which there were two RWD models.

Educate me please. Are these the early ones? Wasn't aware they were GTR's.

Should have watched the link above, worth it for the noise factor anyway

I can't say I've ever heard of the Chapparal. The only popular GTV6 conversion I heard anything about in SA was the Callaway twin turbo V6, though a local company called Alpine offered a turbo conversion of the 2 litre 4 cyl for a while too.
