It looks lovely but.....
If I were the boss of Lotus I would be more concerned about why we only registered five cars in the UK during the one of the busiest months of the year, rather than launching yet another special edition.
The figures make interesting reading - it looks like Audi, BMW, Mercedes, SEAT and Skoda are the only ones making useful progress over the last quarter whilst everyone else slides into oblivion. At least they're not Cadillac, Chevrolet or Dodge who haven't sold a single car between them for the last three months. Even the mighty Porsche are suffering. It looks like people are battening down the hatches and only making 'nice sensible' purchases. Who'd want to be a sports car manufacturer? If I were the boss of Lotus I would be more concerned about why we only registered five cars in the UK during the one of the busiest months of the year, rather than launching yet another special edition.
Have to say I rather like the paint job, and a fully loaded car for 7K more sounds quite good value to me. I'd still rather have the GTE though - in those colours.

JPS colours on a Lotus are cooler than Fittipaldi's sideburns, but the red mirrors and spoiler look crap.
But no matter how nice a black and gold Elise/Exige/Evora might look, they are a bit of a sham compared to a 1970s JPS Esprit.
In order to get away with a limited edition, you need something to brag about. And I don't mean bragging about what the old man achieved forty years ago.
I think that someone ought to obtain an injunction to prohibit Lotus from bringing out any more limited editions until they win another F1 World Championship.
Same goes for James Bond inspired Evoras.
Lotus should get Daniel Craig in a prototype Esprit, then sit back and watch the orders flood in.

As I said, they aren't doing that now so I don't know why they would be next season
Really?Last but one race they spent the entire race trundling along at the back of the grid barely faster than the HRT, last race Senna spent most of the race stuck behind the two Team Lotus cars which don't have KERS.
Chances are next season they will still have two pay drivers, and will continue their race to the back of the grid. Current rumours have it that Genii will buy into Group Lotus, but that's money flowing the wrong way for the F1 team...

That rumour intrigues me, a lot. It smacks of a face-saving measure to allow deals to be done without having to go back on statements made in the past.marshalla said:

The whole thing is very curious. Last year what is now LRGP(Genii) had to get their TV money advanced to make it to the end of F1 the season, and this year they couldn't pay for their engines until Group Lotus stepped in - so how can the seemingly cash strapped Genii be buying Group Lotus from Proton?Joe Saward has written on how it might be part of a deal involving a couple of Malaysian industrialists to move the loss making GL out of public ownership - which as there is an election coming up in Malaysia makes sense.
During most of my life as a Lotus fan, Group Lotus has had a sugar daddy to cover it's debts, it's worrying what might happen to the company in private ownership if things work out as they usually do.

I suspect, if Genii does take on Group Lotus, that it will be for a very short period until someone much richer buys it from them.Joe Saward has written on how it might be part of a deal involving a couple of Malaysian industrialists to move the loss making GL out of public ownership - which as there is an election coming up in Malaysia makes sense.

If Genii or whichever private entity do take over the company will be finnished, no new cars, and making do with there current tech reheated in the low cost oven to churn out the same versions of the same cars
Proton were investing heavily in lotus, if the plug is pulled and the company off loaded, they will go the way of Saab, Rover etc, i really cant see lotus on there own, there overheads are to big and there sales currently way to small to make it a viable concern

What if, just hypothetically you understand, the eventual purchaser had another successful niche car company with a pretty good competition heritage and long history of building cars which handle very well ?Proton were investing heavily in lotus, if the plug is pulled and the company off loaded, they will go the way of Saab, Rover etc, i really cant see lotus on there own, there overheads are to big and there sales currently way to small to make it a viable concern

Absolutely Genii are venture capitalists - selling on for a profit is the name of their game HTH
After splitting the company up, closing down the bits that are 'vanity' and flogging off any assets. It would almost certainly be the end of Lotus Cars. Not that that's how it would be presented.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
