Here's a better theory: people want fast cars that aren't going to hug every tree they see.

fking delusional tree hugging wkers. Unfortunately that is a very clever bit of PR and we need something to retaliate with.
A couple of Group B videos with epic 4WD monsters basically destroying a forest should do it...

why are cars given so much stick these days?
If anything, cars are more efficient then ever?, surely if you push down the CO2 regulations too much then manufacturers will have to invest heavily into drastically reducing CO2 and use lots of complex/expensive systems/components to try and make it more frugal to remain profitable they'll have to pass on that huge investment to the consumer, making a new car cost considerably more then what it is today. And i doubt rushing out t complex/new tech isn't going to be that reliable.

Mmmm

Greenpeace want big 4x4s banned so it would be very hypocritical if they owned a big 4x4 truck

Whatever you do don't go into google and search for "greenpeace truck" and look at the images that come up.

I agree, surely things like planes and lorries are far worse for the environment than a Polo Bluemotion?

Easy target, whilst the number of cars may or may not make them the biggest polluter, it makes it easier for them to rally people as it's what most people have in front of them every day...
