Surely these webuyanycar people are going to offer way less than a private sale or even a trade in aren't they? Aren't they just looking for desparate or silly people.

If you have a non-runner you don't want to invest into a runner, I think Ebay auction / zero start / no reserve / buyer collects is the answer.

Ok, so I've just had an email from Gumtree. Someone's offering me a straight swap for a Jag XJ. Awaiting pictures and details... could be interesting.

Don't do it Kate, it WILL all end in tears...

Oh and beware of Gumtree, owned by evilbay, and has even more shysters than evilbay.

You can tell I'm not very good at this, can't you?! (I've not actually sold a car before. Well, not without assistance).

The Jag's a no-no then?

Nobody offers a straight swap unless it's heavily in their favour. Avoid like barebacking an African hooker.

Cash in full on collection. Do not remove your car from sale until the new owner has put cash in your hand and it is off your premises. Removing it from sale removes any need for them to get their arse in gear to avoid losing it to someone else who is prepared to put some effort in.

Depends what condition it's in but would expect costly issues for such a swap. Feeling brave? hehe Common sense says don't do it.

Gumtree is full of nutters. I was selling something and a guy responded, then asked me to drive 20-odd miles to deliver it to him, I replies "thanks for the offer but no thanks, I don't offer a delivery service". Then he starts sending me angry messages saying "you better fking bring it to me right now, I'll buy from someone else, I swear!"

Ive one ending on ebay in next 20 minutes. It has an issue, but it's nowhere near what I hoped for. It has met the WBAC valuation though! i put it on 99p no reserve as I need it gone, you win some, you loose some, but it's fairly painless on eBay is you describe it well and be honest. smile

As another poster says watch out for Ebay's new policy of the buyer is 'always right' and Paypal can grab money back to refund buyers with spurious excuses and they've got the goods. Cash only!

I've got another question!!!

What's the risk with buying a car that the current owner bought only a week ago? He's got the green slip of the V5 (filled with his details) but that's it.

I'm guessing this isn't a good idea either?

WBAC offered me £30 :P

Scrap men around here don't even want to know, if it can't be driven to them.
Try cartakeback.com we used them for my dads car, £170 iirc and they collect from home, doesnt even need to be a runner. Oh and paid for cash and all the dvla paperwork sorted for you.

A car that has only been owned a week could be a lemon or have issues like speeding tickets, parking tickets etc linked to it, unless the person selling/ proposing the swap has a damn good reason why they want to swap a good car for a somewhat knackered Astra, and I can't think of many then they must think they will come out on top somehow.

Well he's gone quiet since I asked for the reg to HPI it. Hopefully the last I'll hear from him!
