"Yeah, it's not cheap, but what's the worst fast Escort ever built got to do with it?"

Mk3 Xr3
Mk3 RS1600i
Mk3 Xr3i
mk4 Xr3i
Mk5 Xr3i
Mk5 RS2000
Mk6 GTi

so all of the above are better than the S1 Turbo? the motorsport bred, highly tuneable, limited run hatcback that had the pace to worry a BMW 325 back in 1985? Also the first ever FWD car to have a Limited Slip Diff (with a viscous coupling system). Cars that now change hands from £3000 for a box of rust and spares right up to £10,000 to £15,000 for show cars??

Worst fast Escort ever? You sir are an odd chap!

A colleague brought me in an issue of Autocar from 1982. Here's an ad for the Mitsi from inside smile

There's also a review of it against the BMW E21 323i called "Boy Racer Salloons" hehe
I remember buying that issue new! smile
This'll make you feel old, he brought it in as it's 2 years older than me!
I still remember reading about it - we had to get the lowdown on why it was so quick compared to most other stuff smile

The coolest thing about this car is "I believe" that it was the original Mad Max police pursuit car???

Pretty cool all liveried up in the film!

Me and my mates went through about half dozen of these in the late eighties, paying £2K for a good one, then going down to BBR (Brodie Britain Racing) to get it fettled upto 200BHP, and 1000kg!!! one guy spent a fortune on his and ended up with well over 300BHP, with handling to match. 4 door racing car of the eighties, nothing came close for the money, back in the day pound for pound probably the best fun I had on four wheels.. If I had spare garage space (these fookers rot like nothing else) I would be very tempted.....

Fab memories......

Is it any more unrealistic than a RS2000?

Plenty of love for these in the dark and un-chavved recesses of the MLR so no trouble keeping them going, the club itself pre-dating the popularity of Evos in the UK as it was originally formed for these motors.

GravelBen said:
FWIW Mitsi-lovers also have a habit of referring to the 1st-gen Galant VR4 as the Evo 0 even thought it wasn't one either.
Allow me to get my pedant hat on for a minute. Technically the most convincing claim to the title "Evo 0" is the Lancer GSR that the original Evo (full and correct title: Lancer GSR Evolution) evolved from.

But why would you want an Ford RS Turbo when you could have this? Why would you want anyone other than similar like-minded people to know what it was?? If I saw one of these at a classic car meet or in a carpark somewhere I'd be straight past the boring old escort and looking at this. Super nerdy, jap crap is the new black!!
