My Sleeper - still badged as a 1300E but with 1660 711M block, stage 3 head and 285 cam. Spent every penny I earned on it for a couple of years and the only reason Mrs JS agreed to go out with me.. cloud9

Aha, a 1972 Triumph Spitfire Mk IV 1300 which cost me £725 in 1980. TPF&T was £185 which of course I thought was monstrous. The only pic that survives:

1.2, B reg Nova saloon in a very light green. The seats were green....and the dash....oh and the carpet too laugh

The bodywork was in great condition for its age and I should never have sold it for the POS that replaced it frown

Mk2 Escort 1100 pop. Great little motor, £150.00 per year in dad's name insurance.

Looked like this.......

Shame they cost a king's ransom now. Who knew?
Yeah, the Mk2's are very popular now, especially in my area. What's the thing behind it?
No idea, good point (pic taken fron t'internet, so not an original)

Some 1960's Ford/Vauxhall Estate? Anyone know?

Whatever the engine, I bet insurance wasn't too good for that.

Looks like I've been outdone by most others for first cars.Still quite happy with mine though.

Volvo 343. More rust than bodywork, but it did only cost £225.

RWD with crap tyres was good fun (well a bit fun).

Sadly in those days I did not know what antifreeze was and this did for the engine.

Singer Vogue 1600. To this day, I have never experienced a car that started so fast.

It was really odd, but as you turned the key, the engine would start at exactly the same time. There was no sensation of the engine turning and then firing.

An A reg 998cc Mini City E.

It was originally my Mum's car, but my brother and I 'inherited' it. My Dad fitted a small sports steering wheel (he was a co driver for a rally Cooper back in the 60s), and would attack B roads like a maniac in it. My brother drove it like a tt and eventually consigned it to the great scrap heap in the sky.

Vauxhall Viva HB. Very difficult to get a magnet to stick anywhere on the bodywork, which was a variety of shades of dark green. But it was the SL so had lovely "Ambla" upholstery, and static seatbelts. Them were 't days, I'll tell thee.

I don't have a picture of it but my first car (only had it 3 months) was a red K reg Mondeo, 1.6 LX with nearly 100k on the clock bought of my dad for a princely sum of £200 as a stop gap until I found something else, was cheap to insure though only £475 with pass plus not bad for a 19yo new driver, but then that was in 2003.
