Born in '88 and my old uns are both from the 60s ('67 and '68). Lots of 80s/ 90s metal I'd love but (gizmos aside) alot of the modern stuff leaves me cold

i think the 80's was (in car terms at least) synonimous (sp) for the birth of hot hatches, as one manufacturer brought one out, another soon followed. ok, we had yuppies, big shoulder pads, power dressing, big money spending, level 42, pimms................. what did the 70's, 90's 0's and now the double o's offer as a "new breed" of cars other than the 4wd boom which after all, is not new, 4wd's are not a new phenomenon.

ahhhhh, the 80's, as a decade, 'twas actually rather good!!!

Unfortunately the picture's rather poorly framed and most of it shows a Beetle wink

I was born in '91 and have little to no interest in anything beyond 2000ish. I wasn't even that bothered by cars in my early years so can't blame it on that.

I agree somewhat, but with me it is mainly 90s cars. The 993 Porker being the one I want most, closely followed by the Fezza F355. The stuff that I see as being the most modern and reliable stuff you can get before cars became structuraly bloated, EU H&S restricted design, unessential technology bloated..and worst of all blinged to the max with ostentatious (nothing to do with wanting to be safer) DRLs and 20"+ alloys rant rant..though it is largely the car buying public who need to be chastised for this state of affairs, as manufacturers generaly only respond to demand!..

for example I wouldn't buy a new shape RR now because of the way it looks, whereas 3 years ago I was happy to..still more footballer/Essex types will be happy to buy them now so LR won't care about disenfranchising their loyal customer base for a new money, more transient less brand loyal clientele..

older cars all the way..

That is lovely.

I was in my teens during the 80's, and most of my choices have been mentioned already.

Two left-field choices from me:

From what I read at the time, it was unreliable, a pig to drive, and had appalling build quality. But I loved it. Totally 80's.

Again, not a looker. But as an Aston fan at the time it was good to see Newport Pagnell taking the fight to the 288GTO performance-wise.

I was born in the late 80's, and it's 80's and 90's cars that resonate most with me.

When I was young my dad had a Capri, which was moved on and replaced by a black XR2, a white mk2 Scirocco, a mk2 Golf GTI...those were the days! And I still love those angular lines, those dash plastics and boxy interiors.

I also love 90's cars, when it felt like the spirit of invention and innovation created in the 80's was being pushed to the limit. The F1, the XJ220, the Escort Cosworth etc etc. And the explosion of Japanese cars, as the world finally discovered just how good they are. Imprezas and Lancer Evolutions, MR2's and Supras...

It's a shame, even thinking back two or three years ago, Imprezas and Lancer Evolutions were a more common sight on our roads. Sadly, the Lancer didn't really bow out gracefully with the Evo X and Subaru have lost the plot. They should have stopped when someone pitched the new Impreza hatch shape...

Is that Gerry Weigert's Vector W8? 80's wk fest
Same "Car" edition as "THE 928S". Wonderbar!

If someone can throw in Noel's Aston Bulldog, I'll be happier than an old codger soaked in gin.

Born 84 but remember my real first little toy being Scalextric with a pair of Metro 6R4s.

My first real love was probably the Countach but after that I moved on to Escort Cossies (still well up there). Always a fan of fast fords but never really got the whole 205 gti / golf gti 'thing' as I was too young to drive.

New cars now do little for me now compared to what we had available just 10 - 15 yrs ago and it's actually all becomming a bit depressing. I think thats why I'm more swayed now to spending £5k on something with a decent engine than mess around in some Fiesta twice the price running a sewing machine out front. Everything is becomming so epically dull.
