Had some tyres fitted today and overheard a couple of chaps talking about government plans to have diesel particulate filters fitted to all diesels by law, even older vehicles!

Is this true? Or will it be for all future diesel vehicles?

I doubt it. Cats weren't retro fitted.

Are you sure they weren't getting their wires crossed, with retro fitment of DPF's to older vans, Minibuses, lorries to get them to Euro3/4 for use in the London LEZ where the legislation changes from January 1st 2012?

Vehicles that don't meet these standards, and are used in the LEZ will have to pay £100/£200(??) per day depending on their classification

I'm not sure to be honest, it was just a conversation I overheard so the origins could be the man down the pub who preaches motoring nonsense hehe

It would not surprise me however as there seem to be anti-diesel news stories leaking slowly, such as diesel fumes causing a bee to feel dizzy etc. This is how they usually commence an assault on a target, denounce it and then tax it.
