In Car Service Documents

Talking to one of the salesmen (so might not be true) saying the new BMW 1 series has no paper service record, all saved in the car memory with the mileage etc. Would you trust a seller in three years time with a low mileage 1 series and immaculate in car service history, surely it will just be a few clicks of a mouse on a laptop to adjust the mileage and add a few services that were skipped. Think I heard Mercedes have gone to electronic service books too though at least these are kept in the dealer network system? Just a smart way to make sure people don't use their local mechanic?

My Mazda6 had electronic service records back in 2005, although it was stored on a databse, and I was always given a print out of the service record to put in my service folder

A stamped service book and paper service history is easy enough to forge too.

In this day and age, you really need to know your stuff to catch a half decent fraudster.

Get your average previous 1 series service book, you can check that the stamps are good and signed then phone the garage that stamped them and they will have a record in their computers confirming what was done and usually some old invoices and paper work with the car too.

Anyone know what you get on the new one, assume it probably just comes up on the car that all services required have been done rather than giving you names and addresses and lists of work carried out.
