not me for one!

Ive had 5 litre V8 Engined TVRs and they dont make 350. More like 260-280. Still quick, still sound fantastic, but power outputs were vastly overhyped.

Switching to an E39 M5 which I had remapped to a 'real' 414 bhp - put things in perspective on fast drives with older TVRs!! biggrin

I have a feeling this is normal (please feel free to correct me if not), but for £11k, there's enough room in there when compared to other cars like it to account for a potential rebuild in the next 20k miles and still have a performance bargain biggrin Wonder when T350s will get to £11k scratchchin
They can be had for mid 12s, so they may drop to 1lk.

[quote]It was quality of the steel in the components supplied to TVR. Once rebuilt they should be OK. If they haven't been rebuilt allow for it to be done. Later cars are also OK as the problem was rectified.
LoL. Only a true petrol head would understand this!

I'd like a TVR one day, but I'm not sure which one. I'v driven a griffith, but it was years ago and I'd like to drive a 6cyl car and see what its like.

Blimey, I wonder how much the four litres actually make?

Circa 230 at the fly. My old 400 Chimaera put out 228.9 at 10 years old with 54k on the clock and no mods.

Is it safe to say that the Rover V8 are safer bet than the Speed 6, both in terms of robustness and cost of rebuilt?

I would have a Griffith but their boot won't take golf clubs. Chimaera's boot can take golf clubs but in my opinion the rear-end does not look as good ...

I'll still have a Griffith any day though

easy solution, just stay in your Griff blasting along instead of wasting the day on a golf course!

A Speed 6 rebuild by TVR Power gets a five year, 100,000 mile warranty. Properly done, there's nothing to worry about.

The speed 6 is a very different beast but its a fantastic engine (once rebuilt) with a fantastic sound (especially with sports pipes). I have a Cerbera - very practical as well as insanely fast. Had a Chimaera 450 before, looking for a T350 next. They're all great whatever you buy, nothing gets to you like a TVR.

Andy has a point. I put mine on the market 2 weeks ago as I was going to swap to a 355. Took it off after a week as I just couldn't bear to part with it.

My point is that TVR quoted 340bhp in the early years and 320 bhp on the later cars.

Even they never over quoted with as much as 350 bhp ..

I thought 320bhp is more realistic. However, do they get out of tune quite easily?

Right we're slipping into the realms of pub misinformation here!

Standard 500's were quoted as 340 and laterly 320bhp. A good one probably made 280-290 in the real world. It is INCREDIBLY rare to find one that makes anywhere near 300bhp in standard form new or otherwise. The only Griffs to make 300bhp out of the factory were the 4.5BV's and the very few 5.0 pre-cats that were ordered. You'll probably never see either.

The above doesn't matter. They weigh a ton and are shatteringly fast. Extended experience has taught me it's pointless entering into pub power conversations in the first place.

I don't know how big other peoples golf clubs are but as of this Sunday I can catagorically state that my set, driver included, fits EASILY into my boot. My friends VW Golf however, required the removal of both my driver and 3W!!

TVR quoted 319bhp for the 450se wedge back in the day. rolleyes

I have proof from an Autocar article mine was featured in back in 1991 (The car's a 89 model) that it did the standing 1/4 in 14 secs dead with a terminal speed of 110mph.

Now that's pretty quick today, let alone back then. However................................

In 2011 with 103k on the clock, and despite a rebuild at around 35k and then again refurbed heads and new cam at around 75k i'd be surprised if it's kicking out anything above 220bhp given the performance it delivers.

More than happy with it mind youy biggrin cos it's a v8 wedge!

Food for thought.
