I've never hit anyone up the back, but if I did I'd apologise, because that's the right thing to do when you make a mistake and cause damage to someone elses property. Then I'd phone my insurer and say "I've had an accident and it's my fault, I ran up the back of some guy because I wasn't concentrating."
And then we would completely ignore (OK, we might record it) what you have said and make our own minds up smile
yes, and what conclusion would you reach, if your policyholder said he hit tp in rear thru not concentrating, and the tp said he got hit in the rear by your policyholder?

Right time to stick up for taxi drivers.
I run my own taxi company and all cars are proper London style hackneys which cost 35 grand a pop. All my drivers can only have a maximum of 6 points and must be a able to pass an enhanced CRB check so it's fair to say they are pretty good.
I am in the process of installing in car video for all cars as I demand the highest standards of driving and in 10 years my fleet have only had 3 fault accidents and one of those was a cash for crash job which eventually we recovered our losses.

Yes accidents happen but please don't put all taxi drivers in the same category

I would like to say that I spend my working day driving around the city and the west end of London.

Although some cabbies take the piss, they pale into insignificance when compared to the drivers of a certain private hire company. A****** L**.
Utter ste, in my experience.

Have they approved a repair or are they just getting the car assessed/an estimate done?

It's just they'll normally get the bodyshop to price the work and then have an engineer come and check that BEFORE they'll OK a repair...

+1. The taxi driver's excuses are laughable.
Indeed. He will have no case whatsoever.

Yup, it is going through that process now.

Fingers crossed - if you hear an engineer is coming to look at it, that's a GOOD sign (if the bodyshop's initial estimate is sky-high, the engineer won't bother coming, they'll just write-it-off).

Your car is fixable and since the taxi driver is at fault his insurance will pay for your repairs. There is no need to write off a perfectly good car because of a minor shunt like that. Simple as that. Do not engage the other party or their insurance, your insurance company will deal with it if they are any good.
This often ends up with the innocent party out of pocket, though. If it's straightened, repaired, and re-sprayed, the insurance company might say that it's as good as it previously was, but we all know that it can knock resale values, and it can even feel different to drive afterwards.

When i was 20, I was driving in liverpool, around a tight bend. A taxi coming the other way drifted onto my lane and clipped me.

No one believed the taxi was at fault simply because he was a taxi and i was a 20 year old.

Really irritated me.

Well, it took a while but she is home!

I am still being messed about by the other guys insurance company, and I expect it will be several months before I am no longer out of pocket, anyway, how about a before and after?

During

Now, sadly the car got a bit dirty before I could take the phots, I plan on giving it a polish and getting some proper photos when the sun comes out.

Thanks, writing it off was defiantly an option the insurance company were considering.

It's quite all right! I will put more pics in the project thread.
