Why do idiots throw cigarettes out car windows?

Ashtray != Bin. I wouldn't put a cigarette end in a bin, as that's how fires start. However I would put rubbish in a bin, as that is what they are for. Not especially hard to work out....

Say a tricky situation evolves on the road infront of you and you require more concentration and the full use of both hands to steer, change gear, take evasive action etc. That happens and you are holding an apple you can literally drop it if you need to, wouldn't fancy doing it with a ciggy therefore apples are safer overall. If you do have an ashtray then fair enough and you wouldn't be one of the people throwing the fag ends out of the car anyway and so not the target of the thread.

There's no need to drop the ciggy. As I keep saying I can do all the things you mention above easily & comfortably while holding a ciggy & it really is just something you get used to doing, I could probably do all of those things with a ciggy in both hands.

You are correct though in the fact that I do indeed use my ashtray & don't throw the ends out of the window, unless of course I'm throwing them at passing kittens.
