Returning to this thread 8 years on how many road cars are now quicker than the Cobra 427ci 0-100-0?
I’m wagering that this legendary and stunning car is still high in those performance stats and youd need a rather special car to keep it honest.
.. Or any 1000cc sports bike built in the last 20 years? I’m wagering that this legendary and stunning car is still high in those performance stats and youd need a rather special car to keep it honest.
Available for just a few thousand pounds

Slightly off topic, but the Veyron isn't the fastest from 0-100-0. The Ultima GTR720 did it in 9.4 seconds.
7 yrs on and I was waiting for the "Ultima" record to be brought up again but alas not as yet :-)It's usually rolled out swiftly followed by the factory and their claims about "fastest car round top gear track on a Wednesday afternoon in May" or whatever. :-)

The coupe version of this same car with same engine was clocked on the m1 doing 196mph in 4th gear still accelerating hard. Same engine same weight just more aero
The Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupés had the 289 engine. However the "M1 car" driven at 185mph by Jack Sears was the completely different AC Coupé. Jack Sears has been quoted as saying that at 6500rpm "I knew that I was totally flat out".There was a proposed 427 coupé but it was cancelled, allegedly because it would have been faster than the Ford GTs.

Of it's era, the performance and figures gained were nothing short of outstanding and part of the enduring love/myth for the car that's remained since. There was a proposed 427 coupé but it was cancelled, allegedly because it would have been faster than the Ford GTs.
Tyre technology has changed so much that my last 205 gti tried to put me in a ditch at the lightest lift of the throttle to my current one not moving an inch no matter what I do that I wonder what the very same cobra could do on modern tyres.
Flemke, on here, has bought bigger wheels for his Mac F1 just so he can use modern tyres.

Yanks could get anything with 600bhp or so rwd to hook up nowadays with the right set up but it would become a one trick drag pony probably. Flemke, on here, has bought bigger wheels for his Mac F1 just so he can use modern tyres.

What about a Porsche 944 ??
The imaginary ones are certainly rapid.14 odd seconds to 100mph and that’s the Furbo S 250bhp Model. You need a hugely faster car - this with stopping time is likely double the time of the Cobra or the F1.

I think a classic cobra was that anyway on those tyres. They do drift nicely at goodwood but don’t know if those are classic or modern tyres. I sometimes wish I could get the 205 to drive like it did on the old style as it was much more throttle adjustable. It is still good compared to modern stuff but they used to be better.Caddyshack said:

They are ultra modern rubber made to look classic. The cars have become more controllable as I understand it, and the engines/power much more reliable than in period . James 33 said:
Think the Koenigsegg One:1 did 0-200-0 in 20.71 seconds. Don't know if it ever did 0-100-0 but can imagine it would be close or better.
It's obviously much faster. I suspect most modern supercars give the Cobra a pasting on this metric. 13.8 seconds 0-100-0 is pretty bloody fast but it still gives you 8+ seconds to get to 100 assuming a light car on modern tyres.Welshbeef said:

Or something, 4wd, German and powerful with a dual clutch gearbox ?I’m wagering that this legendary and stunning car is still high in those performance stats and youd need a rather special car to keep it honest.
TTRS with a remap wouldnt be far off, 911 Turbo, Nissan GTR, Tesla P100D, Various Mclarens, Ferraris etc
Also depends on whether the time is actuate for the Cobra, reckon loads of modern stuff could match or beat it.

Looking at its 0-100mph time it appears to be near identical to the E92 M3, surprising really that such level of performance is now available to so manyTTRS with a remap wouldnt be far off, 911 Turbo, Nissan GTR, Tesla P100D, Various Mclarens, Ferraris etc
