Don't like these so much.

Much prefer the rally-boy Mk2 Mexicos.

One of my lads here at work said that there were loads of Mk1 & 2 escorts in solid condition back home - only problem is home is a sub tropical south atlantic island called St Helena and it costs £2000 to ship a car! Oh and theres no airport so you have to fly to Ascension Island and then get a 3 day boat journey! Remote! it'd be easier to go to the moon!

Tidy 996 GT2 money, behave, and before the haters jump in I do have history with the shape, mine cost me about 1/20 of this back in the day though.

Nice smile Imagine what that car would be worth now! Even bog standard 4 door mk2 Escorts fetch very good money on ebay.
Yeah I know, I had a succession of mk2 RS2000's and Mexico's, around 15 of them back in the 80/90's, good luck to people trading them now but I think there's much better cars from the 80's for less money.

They always seemed to handle a bit better, but the 1.6 ohc was gutless.

depending how cheap a decent one is out there, that sounds like one hell of an adventure!

compare the price of the trip against the price of a decent/needs minor work MK1 & 2 in this country/euorpe and i doubt theres much in it!

Sorry for being nosey, but just had a look at your profile, your 944 looks stunning! Always had a thing for 944's, & itch that is yet to be scratched smile

By some random fluke I see this car most weekends - the guy who owns it also runs a garage next to my flat on Hove seafront.

Take it from me, it's got a great engine note...

Wouldn't have thought there was much difference in weight between a droop-snoot and a flat front to cause any marked handling difference

Hi
Recognise the car as Mr Manser's regular Brighton Speed Trial car, i seem to remember that's all he used it for. it sat in the MOT workshop looking pretty for the rest of the year.

Yes, this is a lovely looking car and have seen it in action at Brighton Speed Trials. One thing I would question tho is the dyno figure, doing my maths I'd say it would be very difficult to gain that figure from a 2.2 litre 8v, if it is true the engine builder should apply for a job at Maclaren or, more probably, the dyno figures need toning down.

£ 2k to ship and I can't imagine they're worth much. Right, off the St Helena with a bundle of salmon!

Fantastic car, even if it turns out not to be genuine.
