I bought a pre-reg car with 9 miles on collection, four of which were put on by me the week before on a test drive.

The brand new cars I've had were delivered with between 16 and 40 miles.

Most of mine have had less than 10 on the clock and I think the highest was in the mid 20's.

Hence why a lot of expensive cars now come in "Transport" mode. (Limited revs etc) which can be taken off by the dealer at PDI.
I guess that would apply to the Amarok - http://152.66.93.29/audi/download/vw/TB%2000%2010%...

Having seen many MANY new cars. It is rare to see more than 10 miles or so. But a car with 45 may well have been the 1 in 10,000 (or whatever) that the manufacturer took from the production line and gave a full QC on.
It would be a lot more common than 1 in 10,000. More like 1 in 500.

Although they will generally have their odo reset afterwards anyway so you'd never know!

Ive watched a couple of megafactories and all the supercars go through a rolling road and either a road or track test.

45 sounds a lot to me, when I picked up my new one it had 9.

I don’t know if it's a pub legend, or has any truth to it.
But, apparently the odometers in cars used to only work going forwards – if you were going backwards it wouldn't rack up the miles.
(It wouldn't take them off either of course, everyone who's seen Ferris Bueller knows that)

But, as the legend goes, they would be driven in reverse around the factory car parks and onto the transport vehicles to keep the miles down.

Seems a lot of effort to save a mile or two to me.

Which is why the dealers have a tool to reset the odometer back to zero so the punter thinks they are the first to drive the car.

I once had a brand new hire car where the trip counter was showing a higher mileage than the master odometer.

I suppose Amorak sounds a bit like Amtrack.

Although I doubt if many people remember the "Amtrack Wars" these days.

I had this on a hired Vectra as well.
