these are a bit of a bargain, you are getting an enlarged mini, with most mini virtues but without the inflated prices.
A very good point, loads more room than a Mini, and they ride well too. With a warmed up 1275, a set of minilites and modern rubber, what's not to like?

Have a look everyone at all the pics including the one of that lovely 1300GT dash that I mentioned in one of my earlier posts - the black with the round gauges is lurvely.....
Thanks for the hedas up on that ~ enjoyed seeing those pictures of that little 1300GT in exceptional condition some 40 years after it left the production line. Brought back some nice memories. Great days gorn forever.

If you love these cars, you have to visit The Heritage Motor Museum.

What a collection of British steel!

http://www.heritage-motor-centre.co.uk/

I was there on Friday for my sons presentation as he had finished his aprenticship.

The all British place was hired by Nissan, there's irony for you!

Agreed MGJohn - that car looked in excellent condition; also worthy of mention the colour suited it to a tee but the same colour on the Marinas - ugh....
I still reckon that the 1300GT could be a great daily; the A Series can be made to produce a good bit of power which would see the car well able to keep up with today's traffic (even my Saab, well maybe up to the ton - lol) I would love one; I had a Wolseley 1300 auto years ago which I rescued from salvage with the back end stove in, got it for £70 with a complete back end thrown in and did it all myself. Those heelboards rot but everything is 'do-able'. The cars are so easy to work on and if I weren't so old with so many things to do I reckon I'd have one as a project.

Oi! I remember that, was in London until the last six months of the war, then evacuated with me dear old mum to Mansfield - the first night we were there a doodlebug came over and I heard her swear for the first time "I thought we had heard the last of those bds"
Sorry - a bit O/T....

I was a small boy during that time in London's east end. Great fun for a small boy.

Clutched to my mother's bosom, crouching in the cupboard under the stairs when the Air Raid Sirens were blaring away. The safest place to be when the bombs were falling so we were told. Doodlebugs... yes, one of those words frequently mentioned that I clearly remember. Most vivid memory being grabbing my black and white kitten and tossing it into the Anderson Shelter in the garden as the sirens sounded only to have it skuttle up the few steps past me and out of the shelter as I backed down into it. FAIL... frown

It was good fun for this three year old... but, not good fun for many others, far from it. A V2 fell at the end of our street making a huge mess of stuff. Worse than that, my parents would not allow me to play on those adventure playgrounds known as bomb sites. Spoil sports... wink

The last time this now fragmented nation had the all the folks pulling in the same direction.

Ahh but was it a council shoe box or your own?

Not only did we dream of owning our own shoe box but we had to lick t'motorway clean with our tongues just for the privilege of looking at our neighbour's shoebox.

Ahah .. the Monty Python effect.

Perfectly understandable. Cleese had a genuine love-hate realtionship with the 1100s. Hence this very funny incident with an 1100 in one of the Fawlty Towers shows. I make no apologies for showing this again as I think it's already appeared earlier in this thread.

At least one feature length film Cleese appeared in involved a long and extremely frustrating drive in a hugely abused 1100. Despite all that abuse, it got him there in the end.

That would be Clockwisewink . Worth watching just for the old tin on the roads cloud9 ...

Then there's the red Maxi that appears as the Fawlty family car in the second series of Fawlty Towers - was Mr Cleese a closet BL fan???

Product placement I think. At some point there is an Austin Princess and a Rover 3500s.

I doubt that. BMC, BL et al were very slow off the mark with product placement unlike say Ford with The Sweeney and The Professionals and Volvo with "The Saint's" Valva P1800 ... wink

BL were very slow with product placement. They provided the cars for The Avengers and then for early episodes of The Professionals on the same contract with the production team for both programmes...

Ford soon took over - really, how can continuity in the filming be achieved easily when (for example) a different Triumph Dolomite (different colour especially but also different spec...) is provided for filming the next day or week? It can't!

Ford knew how to do it properly, with several identical versions of each car involved in the filming available for the duration of filming.

I suspect that Mr Cleese was trying to get BMC/BL cars into his programmes, and it happened more by his own efforts than product placement smile . The comment "I can't give [the police] a description - is it a Morris or is it an 1100?" in Clockwise (written by Mr Cleese) doesn't dissuade me from this train of thought hehe .

I have heard stories tha BL used tp use the press cars for filming. Sometimes the production co. wouldn't even get the same model let alone colour.

You are right Ford did get it right. The Sweeney turned a luxury saloon into a very cool motor; chasing down, and beating, the bad guys in their Mk II Jags.
