RE: TVR: Back in business (there's even a website)
Discussion
sad face – the comment about tossing about a wounded half dead animal hit the mark for me.
So much could be done with TVR in the right hands with the right design focus.
Dear car manufacturers.
Please make me a 2+2, petrol, 200ps+, manual, AWD, nice linear delivery like a T5, 0-60 around the 6 sec mark, that isnt german but pref designed and made in the UK, reliable and fun to drive for under 25k. Look at GT cars for inspiration. I do under 10k miles a year so frankly the economy isnt a big issue – if it was I would buy a diseasal.
I need it to be able to take the kids to school a couple of times a week and be a nice daily driver but also turn on the fun factor when I want to.
It cant have wings and daft bits all over it either as I need to be able to turn up to business meetings without looking like a chav or someone well into a mid life crisis.
It could even be a hybrid. Just.
oh look – an airbourne pig...

Gotta say, I agree with the comments about the wounded animal. It never made any sense to me why that Smolen...er...whatever bloke bought TVR in the first place, unless he had ideas to make more money (not less) out of it. The side effect of him making more money would be the survival of the marque, and much fun for everyone under a TVR badge.
That said... (and I'm sorry to say this)... the idea of being able to buy a 'new' Sargaris with the reliability of a modern Corvette is something I love the idea of, and in a few months when I'll be looking to buy something new, I'll certainly be exploring this option.

this is just the latest episode in Smolenski stripping every last scrap of credibility from the TVR name
and to think that years ago he was heralded by some as the wealthy astute businessman that was going to take TVR to another level.
sorry days really.
agree, this is brandmanagement of 'the sixties'. Why the hell is a manufacturer rebuilding it's own cars. Racing Green or others are probably much more capable & experienced in doeing these jobs! and to think that years ago he was heralded by some as the wealthy astute businessman that was going to take TVR to another level.

Surely a RHD Corvette would be pretty much the same thing.JonRB said:

Strangely, I'm still waiting on responses from those interview questions. Perhaps they were a bit tough...Did the 6 year old who designed the new tvr website get past the tough interview questions

Does look a bit shonkey. May be CPP in Coventry will come to the rescue and buy up TVR. They're trying to buy everyone else at the mo.
As for the chaps Austrian company Maudib, isn't that the killing word from the book and film Dune?
No. Well, it might be from the cr*p, Dino de Laurentis, utter garbage movie, which would have better off never existing, but from the book it's Paul Atreides' Fremen name; Muad'Dib, which means a kangaroo mouse, or jerboa. As for the chaps Austrian company Maudib, isn't that the killing word from the book and film Dune?
The sad thing in all of this is that the TVR brand and it's identity now only exist in the cars that we all see and enjoy on our roads today. The half baked effort of a brochure site offering new for old is hardly a revival of a brand, particularly when the only thing that has changed is the logo and the amateur way in which the brand is communicated.
As it's already been said, it's a real shame British business didn't buy the rights to the brand name and put our world renowned designers and engineers to work. This latest effort isn't part of TVR's heritage, it's a complete departure...what a crying shame

mow mow...why every time, enjoy the little things (and new BIG engine's) or the old TVR's.
on that website they are busy with a mk2 Tuscan
now imagine that in a T350 or Sagaris or the older models...love it! and when all goes well the new models will come in time, I still enjoy seeing the models till date so for me no problem.

Just Googled Ring Times and found the following
7:40* -- Porsche Carrera GT, *estimated time on cold and partially wet track (2003)
7:40* -- Corvette Z06, 505 PS/ 1419.7 kg (estimated), Jan Magnusen
7:40 --- Mercedes Benz McLaren SLR, Klaus Ludwig, Autobild July 2004
7:42 --- Radical 1500 SR3 (2002)
7:43 --- TechArt GT Street (2001)
7:43 --- Porsche 996 911 GT3 RS, factory test driver Walter Rohrl, MOTOR Magazine
7:43.5 - Lamborghini Murcielago (Autocar magazine, 2002)
7:44 --- Pagani Zonda C12S (07/2003)
7:45 --- Gemballa Porsche GTR 600 (12/2000)
7:46 --- Porsche 996 GT2
7:46 --- SHK Porsche 993 GT2, 652 PS (1999)
7:47 --- Porsche 996 GT3 RS, 381PS (996) (2004)
7:49 --- Porsche 996 GT3 Cup
So only 9 seconds faster than a GT3 Cup I can see that crude rear suapension and heavy weight is really affecting it.

Exactly.
To me, this constant 'we're back (sort of)' is making TVR into a laughing stock.
Either come back and do something properly or don't bother. It's a piss take.
In the UK, you have TVR. Across the pond, we have Indian Motorcycles, which gets about 3 revivals per decade, all of which take a lot of deposits, some build a few bikes, but then suddenly disappear....To me, this constant 'we're back (sort of)' is making TVR into a laughing stock.

It's a real shame, but can be a good thing.
It's a shame that this keeps happening.
It's a good thing that a PH member (Dom Trickett of TVR Power), is in line to do this.
It's a might be a new chapter to TVR.
It's a shame other people already do this (Topcats, Steve Heath to name two).
It's a shame TVR have abandoned their roots.
It's a good thing that other companies are keeping the TVR name alive (Racing Green & their FFF along with STR8-Six and the Power products).
To conclude....... Meh. Who cares? Just give up with the factory BS, and go and see what is actually out there.
