What is it about people who accelerate as hard as......
Discussion
they can, as soon as they realise you are overtaking them? I refer to the twazzock in the silver 123d coupe who essentially tried to kill me just now
Thankfully his/her car is relatively slow, otherwise bad things would have happened.
What is the psychology of this? You don't see pedestrians doing it to each other.

Diesel drivers have now got a new stereotype to live up to and need to beat someone in a made up race daily so their mates don't leave them for repeating the same story over and over. pilchardthecat said:

I do occasionally when I am wandering around shops otherwise bored.
get this lots.
Especially when in the SAAB on Cruise Control........... Cath up with them, indicate, pull out, half way past they wake up or get ego, and off they go.
Pull in, leave 'em to it, 5mins later we're at it again.
When had the 200SX was more people trying to incite a race..... a la 2008 Focus ST who decided he needed to see just how fast the ratty old nissan would go from 55- warp speed.... And then looked shocked as it left him.

123d slow? What were you in??!
a Z4M....which funnily enough i purchased by trading in a remapped 123d coupe, so i know them well.... and the (mapped) 123d drives like a big wallowy bus with treacle in the fuel tank by comparison, so ner.and i am 100% positive that he floored it (not the sort of thing you do when you realise you are just pootling a bit).

Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.
I've been passenger in a car where the driver was happily going along at 70ish on a DC, he notices a car coming to overtake, says something like "who does that **** think he is", drops a gear then floors it. Proper nobber.Used to notice this a lot in the KA, simply because most overtakes were done with the throttle pinned and all 60 rampant horses going wild under the bonnet.
In a lot of cases, I think it's more subconscious than malice. People see 'something' come alongside them and their instinctive reaction is to get away from it, so they accelerate. There is of course the pre-condition that said people are thinking of yorkshire puddings rather than the trivial task of driving.

There is a trend developing along the same lines where you approach a car (in the third lane) in the act of overtaking, hang back, match their overtaking speed leaving a gap as not to hassle them then when they're clear of whatwever they've overtaken they move back into their lane - then speed up leaving you stranded trying to overtake them. Why slow down when overtaking? Bizzarre.
Happens regularly. And it's really annoying.
