aren't Z4Ms a bit weedy in the midrange and a bit peaky too?

123d 50-70 5.5secs Z4M 6.0secs
123d 400NM Z4M 355NM
123d 1450kg Z4M 1495kg

Go figure.....

I recon you tried to overtake and got a little embarrassed!

I can't believe the Z4M really takes 6 seconds to do 50-70.

I've been passenger in a car where the driver was happily going along at 70ish on a DC, he notices a car coming to overtake, says something like "who does that **** think he is", drops a gear then floors it. Proper nobber.
I too have been a passenger in a car when the driver has done that, it's a very odd mentality. I think people take it as an affront against the standard of their driving, i.e. they are excellent drivers so no one should be allowed to get in front. I think also a high number of people cling to the outdated notion that the cost of their car somehow dictates the pecking order the roads, and of course the notion that there [i]is[/] a pecking order.

I tend to categorise these drivers with those that will take any opportunity whatsoever to get in front (two lanes merging into one, multi-lane roundabouts etc.) and then proceed to hold you up. A bit like the 40 everywhere mentality too. The joys of motoring in the UK smile

123d slow? What were you in??!

It seems to be 'I'm not having that, my cars definitely quicker' mentality, or they feel that it's somehow not fair that you get there ahead of them
They are only about 200bhp, which although not slow, plenty of other things are quicker.
Indeed, but as I've found out to my cost a fast N/A car in the wrong gear will be troubled by a 123d in the right gear.

So if the OP was just cruising past the 123d could have given him trouble.

But I really don't understand why the car that is being overtaken accelerates in these situations it's so dangerous.

That's probably 50-70 in 6th (0-100 through gears is is 11.7)

The z4m is pretty much level with an e9x M3 up to 3 figures, it pisses all over a 123d. (as i said i've had both cars)

I can't imagine why anyone would overtake in top gear. I'd never be higher than 3rd overtaking on a single carriageway road.

One would assume that he didn't try to overtake in top gear.

50-70 in 6.0 secs? From a 330hp straight six? Are you sure about that?

What would you call a fast N/A car?

they can, as soon as they realise you are overtaking them? I refer to the twazzock in the silver 123d coupe who essentially tried to kill me just now

Thankfully his/her car is relatively slow, otherwise bad things would have happened.

What is the psychology of this? You don't see pedestrians doing it to each other.
And how is it that BMW drivers get stereotyped for being a certain kind of something.... wink

SO what we have hear is two BMWs, no idea how quick or slow either were going, but evidently one was going quicker than the other. So decided to overtake, where if it became life threatening, one could argue was never a place to overtake at all.

As one BMW sped past the other, the first one decided to play silly buggers. Instead of the 2nd BMW being sensible they deiced to play bigger silly buggers back at them.

So how far above the speed limit did both of you get then? hehe

I've just realised, I assumed you were on the motorway for some reason :S What road were you on?

It boils my piss to find somebody trying to stop you overtaking, I had it two weeks ago. Scary stuff.

It will do in the wrong gear though. Those 50-70 acceleration tests are some of the most pointless things ever conducted and published.

Despite having taken the bait somewhat, this thread wasn't supposed to be a pissing contest hehe

But i am interested in the psychology. For example, 10 miles previously on the same journey i happened to be in a long line of traffic at about 40mph, was turning left in a mile or two so was wafting along..... and I was overtaken by an insignia CDTi. My member is still the same size it was when the Vauxhall was behind me, and i do not wish harm upon it's driver.

It was a rural b-road, a reasonable straight bit where i could overtake up to 2 cars safely without cutting in rudely in front of them, or one dick head.
