What is it about people who accelerate as hard as......

they can, as soon as they realise you are overtaking them? I refer to the twazzock in the silver 123d coupe who essentially tried to kill me just now
Thankfully his/her car is relatively slow, otherwise bad things would have happened.
What is the psychology of this? You don't see pedestrians doing it to each other.
Yup!! Had this Saturday morning on my way to work. Old dear in a focus with fag in her mouth doing between 20 and 25mph. I passed her safely and carried on about 35mph. About 300 yards down the road she was right up my chuff and then shot passed me when the road went to two lanes. Thankfully his/her car is relatively slow, otherwise bad things would have happened.

I carried on at the constant speed I started my journey at.

50-70 in 6.0 secs? From a 330hp straight six? Are you sure about that?
Well I stand semi correctedA little research later 2008 Autocar magazine quotes 50-70 times in top gear is 6.9secs for the Z4M and 6.7secs for the 123d.
Now I am sure the only way the OP got around was to cane it in 2nd gear while granny in the diesel hatchback was simply putting her foot down in 6th
Either way its nice to see spirited driving going on here.

a Z4M....which funnily enough i purchased by trading in a remapped 123d coupe, so i know them well...
OP, why so much hate for the 123d? You liked it enough to buy one a couple of years ago, but these days you pop up on every diesel-bashing thread to slag it off.
Obviously your Z4M is a much faster car, and its great that you love it so much, but surely you appreciate that it is aimed at a completely different market to the 123d?

Despite having taken the bait somewhat, this thread wasn't supposed to be a pissing contest
But i am interested in the psychology.
How quick were they going? And how quick were you going on approach to them? But i am interested in the psychology.
As much as I hate to say and many will hate to hear it, but I suspect part of the psychology is exactly the same thing that spurred you to overtake in the first place.
So ask yourself why did you overtake, and look for the real reason, not just one to post back on here.
I suspect:
-fun
-because you could
-because you wanted to get somewhere
-because you like leading
-because you like beating someone
-because you liked/wanted to prove you could or are better/faster than them

123d slow? What were you in??!
It seems to be 'I'm not having that, my cars definitely quicker' mentality, or they feel that it's somehow not fair that you get there ahead of them
They are only about 200bhp, which although not slow, plenty of other things are quicker. It seems to be 'I'm not having that, my cars definitely quicker' mentality, or they feel that it's somehow not fair that you get there ahead of them
So if the OP was just cruising past the 123d could have given him trouble.
But I really don't understand why the car that is being overtaken accelerates in these situations it's so dangerous.
Happened to me for the first (noticeable time) yesterday, i went to pass and as i started to draw along side the other car i had to decide between the embarrassment of pulling back in or the embarrassment of taking the upcoming righthander far too fast, i pulled back in.
Needless to say, id woken the dawdler up and he then covered the next series of bends like he was in a GP.
