650hp in a coupe is hard to swallow. That is Mclaren F1 power in a mundane run of the mill coupe, albeit the flagship model.
Awesome car, 4 seats, RWD and available with manual, very very nice!
Hang ups on Fuel economy / mpg etc, I dont get. If you want power you pay for it at the pumps (and insurance, tax, bla bla bla).
If you want economy get that 1.4 diesel you have been lusting after.
In the grand scheme of things buying and driving a 600hp+ car today is far cheaper than at any point in history - FACT!!!!
Terrific car - delighted you could afford to buy and keep it fuelled in these austere times (genuine comment) Awesome car, 4 seats, RWD and available with manual, very very nice!

You're right historically if only because 600hp+ is a rarity in a production car. I believe this level of power has only been available in recent years.

My life's ok and probably better than yours. We are preparing for 2012 motorsport season and there's flying to fit in as well. Just trying not to waste money on regular road cars Seriously, why do idiots post stuff like that
Enjoy your life but don't be a dick about it eh?

lets face it, ford have been really poor ever since chevy came out with the LS engine series, now after 10-15 years they announce a mustang that does 200mph
lets see it down the quarter against a LS9 ZR1 and then we can judge like for like
You've driven both Chevrolet Camaros and Ford Mustangs? Perhaps even a Corvette, I presume?lets see it down the quarter against a LS9 ZR1 and then we can judge like for like
The ZR1 and the GT500 are completely different cars, they just happen to share a similar BHP figure and top speed.

So shall we agree that the 2010-12 styling remains the most controversial or "marmite" of the various iterations.
Not sure, what I'm really interested in is how you feel about the 2013 new rear end which appears to be a compromise between our two favourite designs and whether you find it agreeable as I do? I hate this '2013' crap, it's not even 2012 yet, what I want to know is, will this refresh be available in the next few months when I will be in Ford dealership waiting to buy one?

As for the poster who suggested that the ZR1 and GT500 should line up at the drag strip, there is little point as the Corvette is likely to cost a lot more than the GT500 - the Camaro ZL1 will be the competitor and on power vs weight and IRS vs a solid axle, the Mustang can't really lose. So let's hope that new suspension GM have fitted does the trick because it's going to have to be exceptional just to match the Mustang's proven ability.
The alternative would be to uprate the current 540hp version which can pass the IVA. I suspect with 650hp, insurers are going to be suffering a lot of rectal twitch given the high chance of a premature exit based on the power output alone.

Saucer of milk.. I think the point you're missing (before your willy-waving) is that yes it's ludicrous and yes if you work out a cost per mile, it's probably rather expensive but.... honesty, some of us don't care.
It's great because it's a bit daft.

Great attitude Twenty years ago, we ran a Mustang 5.0L V8 alongside a Sierra 2.9L V6 4x4 as daily transport when petrol was much cheaper. Can't imagine affording them today I think the point you're missing (before your willy-waving) is that yes it's ludicrous and yes if you work out a cost per mile, it's probably rather expensive but.... honesty, some of us don't care.

But we do have a classic sportscar with 320hp 302ci smallblock alongside two competition cars. The sportscar only weighs 960kg so it's fast but annual mileage is low. Really depends where you choose to spend spare funds. Life could be worse
My favourite Mustang is 2000MY Cobra R which I've driven on road and track - quick as an Evo 6 around Brands Indy circuit. One fast and very capable car
May the silliness (and the ability to pay for it) long continue
I'm not a Ford man but this car is fecking amazing! That Modular V8 has really come of age.
Only problem is, as lovely as the latest Mustangs look- the shape is as common as a BMW 3 series around London and the home counties, out here.
I hope Mopar follows suit and makes a monster Hemi while lightening the LX platform a bit for the Challenger

Well Ford are claiming the car hit 202mph at Nardo in Italy:

Chevy have announced the price of the ZL1 at just shy of $55000 so expect this to be somewhere round there too.
Oh and did someone mention Chrysler, late again with a concept toting a mere 540hp in a 300...

The copycat window in the bonnet looks a bit naff on a car like this (and the ZR1 if truth be told)

Love this GT500 though. Given that the 2012 GT500 was a shade under $50,000 this shouldn't be much more expensive.
Which if you convert to £ is around £32,000. Makes the Nissan GT-R's bhp/£ seem a little high!
I'll have one in Kona Blue ('cos i love Kona bikes) please.

You do have to laugh at the US Muscle car thinking on just ever making the engines with more bonkers numbers, when the cars ar not really that advanced.
Mind I do kind of like the detuned ZR1 (ZL?) Camaro.
Wife like the Silver one they have on Hawaii 5-0 - useful tow car till you facto in the "gas" mileage in "Rapeoff" Fuel duty Britain!

Are they really that un-advanced? My old Camaro runs double A arm front suspension, engine is more front mid mounted than front mounted. It uses plastic composite body panels and has things like ASR, it might be live axled, but its not exactly a hotchkiss setup, it's a rather more sophisticated tri link setup.Mind I do kind of like the detuned ZR1 (ZL?) Camaro.

So when you say not advanced, are there any specific parts you are referring to?
The Camaro also has IRS and the same rheo-magnetic dampers used on the CTS-V and various Ferraris doesn't it? It's no more a blunderbuss than your average AMG Merc.
Meanwhile the new rear lights are sequential red indicators as well...

They are as advanced as anything built in Europe, with the same technology applied in design and construction. The difference is a car with that power output will be sold for much more in Europe, with plenty of sophisticated electronics and expensive interior materials to help justify the price
Because the price of fuel is lower in the states, more people can afford to run one, hence the reason the cars are built to a lower price.
