Yes, and it's not just one dealer. Three dealers that I've phoned up have offered me more than £12,000.
Yes, on the phone they are keen to get you in so. A dealer will not offer unseen on a punter car.

Wait till you turn up and they inspect your car with a book in one hand and a fine toothed comb in the other smile

Looking at a dealer trade In price is too simplistic unless that is a cash purchase price, as the car you would be getting from the dealer may or may not make the deal worse.

I'm guessing the dealer isn't offering much more than 12 though from your response.

A lot of the cooper s minis seem to be ending up with dealers,
Minis on the forums don't seem to be selling without large drops from original asking price.

First rule of negotiatian as a buyer - if your first bid doesnt embarass you, its to high.
This +1
Buying and selling is just a game, just learn to play it and realise most other people are doing the same

Put the details into WBAC and add 10% to the price they offer and that will be your private sale expectation.

I'm guessing it's 'sell that car' and probably relates to a catchphrase used before a car selling segment. I'm not much of a TV watcher.

Recently sold a C320 diesel. Told that my price was optimistic...

Ebay did noy hit reserve eventually hitting about £5,400.

Eventually sold it to the Ebay highest bidder above for £6,500 by holding my nerve. We did agree £6,250, but he wanted the private plate (just a cheapo) so I insisted on an extra £250...

OP, here is a quick plan for you. Bung your car through your local BCA or Manheim center with a reserve of what your local MINI dealer has offered you. See if it makes the money.

This is the best of both worlds. If it does not make the cut, you know that both you and the dealer are overpricing the car. If it does sell, then you are quids in. If it makes the 15k you are asking for, go into the trade, because you are better at the job than most.

Is this thread a wind up?

Do you have to accept every offer?

OIf course not, so stop whinging. Either tell them to naff off and accept the dealers offer, or don;t and keep the car.

I'd have offered you even less, just to see your reaction and to judge how desperate you actually were to sell. After all as a buyer I couldn't give the remotest toss about you, I just want to buy the car for the lowest figure I can. If that means insulting you, then so be it. If you don;t like it, then I'd just go off and buy a car from someone else.

Yeh that's what the sales guy told us while trying to justify his advice of taking out a PCP!

my advice is take their offer and run. 15k is sadly not realistic IMHO

So, my car is up for sale at £15k. Some guy texts me and says he's interested.
Apparently, he just sold his E92 M3 and needs something small. After about ten calls and texts between us, today he finally offered me... wait for it, £12k. Yes, £12k! rolleyes

I mean, seriously? My local dealer would take it for a fair bit more than that!

fking timewasters!

[/Rant mode off]
So did you respond with a firm no, ending communication then moaning on the internet? Why oh why do people who sell cars privately expect to get dealer retail prices usually based on a parkers valuation, and then take it is a personal insult when the buyer opens with a low bid? I'll admit I would only be happy doing it in person where it is easier to read the tone of a reaction but I'd still have a crack at a low opening offer and be prepared to walk.

How many Minis are on sale in the UK? How many cars for less than £15k are on sale? How many people are prepared to hand over £15k for a car that can be bought with a manufacturers backed warranty elsewhere for similar money?

It is rare that the buyer needs the car more than the seller (private or trader) needs to sell the car.

I offered £3k under sticker for the last car I bought. We shook hands at a deal not a million miles from there.

They used to hold up well, but now that every bubble has one the values have fallen pretty hard.

On a side note, our neighbour has just got a MINI 'coupe' — fk me it's the worst car I have ever seen! Shirley that will be a big loser...

So have MINIs become unfashionable then? The Cooper I drove wasn't a very nice actual car.
