How many of those options are neccessary? If someone was to buy the most basic model on offer and had never driven a car with all the options, would it still be a great drive or would they quickly start wishing they had the extras?

I wonder what the increases for the GT cars will be like.
yup, but a basic M3 coupe comes with 4 doors, a bigger boot, similar straight line performance (more so the faster you go due to more power) and costs £20,000 LESS than the standard carrera.

you can't compare them, for the price i'd bloody hope it's better! even if it were the same price i'd hope it was better because you're losing some of the practicality.

if i wanted a car where i didn't need back seats and i wanted it to be fun, i'd take the 911. if i needed proper back seats or lots of luggage space, i'd take the M3. in not many situations would it be choosing between the 2. i'd have to ask does it offer £20k+ more car?

i do like this 991 a lot though!

still, i'd be tempted by a GT-R....

Nah, it won't work..

No matter how often I tell myself I should love one of these, I find myself drifting away and looking at Maserati's, Astons, anything really....

I am sure it is very good. But I am overwhelmed with indifference.

My last three cars have been new.

I like to: -
1) Be able to choose the car, colour and options that I want, not that someone else has chosen.
2) Enjoy the three-year+ warrantees available to the first owner
3) Know that I'm the first to drive it
4) If you've never experienced the hand-over of a new car, it's very nice.

Then again, the massive 25%+ discounts from my employer go some way towards the cost too...

And it's how Porsche is the most profitable car maker in the world
as far as i'm aware they aren't the most profitable (i.e. other manufacturers make more profit). what they do is make the largest percentage of profit from car sales.

for example, a car seller who sells 500 cars per year for £10,000 each makes £8,000 profit on each one, so they make £4m profit per year. they make less profit from someone who sells 2,000 cars per year but makes £4,000 from each car, which are also priced at £10,000 each.

Well your are right you can't compare then at all.

I looked at a 15k mls M3 a couple of weeks ago, the dash is pretty old hat and low rent, and the drivers seat bolsters had started to rub through the surface finish in that time, you pay your money.
