What V8 has a respectable MPG?
Discussion
I'm averaging about 22.5 with the RS4 which is better than I'd thought I was going to get (particularly since I've been doing too many rush hour trips to the nursery in it)- I have had the early 30's in slow constant traffic doing about 50 but that's really trying for the sake of it with a very light right foot.

Have a 500 mile trip abroad coming up in a few weeks so that will be the real economy test.
Let us know how you do Ive just P/X my old S/C for the new TVS2300, and noticing
better MPG
Going for a run tomorrow (about100 miles)
so will reset trip and see
S4, 4.2 V8 with an AMD remap - 350+BHP.
Average over 5k miles = 25mpg.
32mpg on a run is easy - done many times.
The torque is amazing, so in traffic or sedate driving it is easy to still get decent mpg. Hammer it all the time and close to 10mpg is achievable, but who does that all the time? You will get a more economical car but you can return decent economy when still making decent progress - always reminds me of the Top Gear test of an M3 against a Prius - Prius goes as quick as it can and all M3 has to do is keep up - the M3 gets better mpg. If you want the balance of speed and economy a V8 is pretty good.
I like I can trundle around in absolute luxury and when the fancy takes me i can do 175+mph or keep up with most things on the twisties.

My twopenneth;
Several long journies (2-400 miles) in my 5.7 Monaro have resulted in over 30 mpg, 31.7mpg being the last one I remember, and that's the door-to-door average, using cruise set to the speed limit.
My wife's V8 S-type, which has been used for family holidays the last two years, has, on both occasions, comfortably exceeded 30mpg (34.5) for the whole journey. Again, CC set to speed limit, and the car was fully loaded.
So yes, it is possible, it just depends massively on what your average journey actually is.
(Apologies to Mr Gear for having two V8s in the household. I can hear you frothing from here )
You can do better than that. Chop in the S-type for an S-type-r. Then you could legitimately call yourself V88SuperDicky Nice!Several long journies (2-400 miles) in my 5.7 Monaro have resulted in over 30 mpg, 31.7mpg being the last one I remember, and that's the door-to-door average, using cruise set to the speed limit.

No idea how it was achieved, but that sounds jolly good to me.
It's at a constant 55ish mph less than a minute after starting and having had the trip reset by the look of it...Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
