My suggestion was given you have never owned a BMW 5 series saloon you have no idea what you are talking about.
You have to have owned a 5 series saloon in order to 'know what you're talking about'???????

What a load of bks.

Well done on taking the quote out of context.

If you are spouting on about how dull and rubbish a 5 series is and you haven't owned one, I'd love to know on what basis you form your opinion.
Test driving one and finding it a bit dull

As i did test drive a 530D estate as a replacement for my 325tds and i found it a bit lardy and stodgey but worse then that it was a bit dull. So i bought my landrover defender instead which is far worse road car in all ways but far more intresting.

Though i realise that I made a huge mistake as i should of bought it as it would transform into the worlds most exciting car instead of a slighty stodgey dull 4 door diesel.

That was designed to see if he had indeed driven a 5 series.

His comment is akin to driving a 318 and saying the 330 is pants. The 530d and 535d are very different beasts and the 550d should, if the specs are to be believed, be even more of a beast.
I didn't say it was pants i said it was stodgey and dull

I can't see how adding a few hundred diesely horsepower and an automatic gearbox will transform a dull heavy diesel car into a nimble light one

What I said to trigger your BMW defense mechanism is that diesel saloon cars aren't AWESOME

Fast yes

AWSOME not even vaguely

Aw fk knows it was years ago some silver lump of bland

But i fully accept that BMW diesels are better and are more fun then any car that i have ever owned and i am completely wrong to base my opinion of BMW diesels on a brief test drive. I was mistake to think they are lardy saloon cars favoured by balding salemen while they have a midlife crisis when in fact they are finely honed sports cars that I will never be lucky enough to own.

I now know that i have offended your relgion by suggesting that BMWs are awesome

No BMW diesel has ever gone wrong its just my imagination that a company has sprung up based on a common BMW fault

BMW they are just AWESOME

I am now going to go outside and pray to our reciptionists 330D which is in the car park

Happy now?

Yes hehe

I never, ever said they were the most fun cars, and will never do so. What I did say was they're good at what they're designed for, that's it.

Which is transporting fat salemen from A to B while letting them brag down the bar of the travelodge they have a 550D, in a particularly dull conversation which will include MPG, 0 to 60, speed limiters, warranty, more torque then <insert hi revving petrol car> and the fact that it has bluetooth. But at no point will the word "fun" be used

I haven't ever claimed a 5er is rubbish. Other than the M5 they are dull though. Also I have owned a few and get use of those on our fleet on a regular basis. Not that it makes any difference because by your twisted logic none of us can comment on the 550D because we haven't owned one.

edit to add: you need to get out more if you think a white goods saloon car made by a manufacturer who seems to have forgotten how to make cars that are fun to drive rather than just blunt instruments is 'awesome'.

Dear Mr BMW

I have always liked your cars and i have owned a E36 318i and a E36 325tds.

It will be obvious to anyone reading that they were both a 3 series as designated by the 3

Also obvious that the first one had a 1.8l petrol engine as designated by the 18i and the second was a 2.5l turbo diesel engine as designated by the 25tds with the s designating it as the higher powered version of this engine

I notice that your latest car is called a 550d

So logically it must be a 5 series which it is. However following your naming tradition i would expect to find under the bonnet a 5 litre non turbo charged diesel. However it isn't you have in fact got under the bonnet a 3l diesel with more turbos strapped to it then a copy of max power.

This is a silly situation so could you please stop it

Might i suggest you call it a 538td with the 38 indicating 380bhp and the td indicating terminal death turbo diesel is under the bonnet.

It is sensible and logical and very german

Many thanks

Not sure exactly what all the arguing is about, but I think that would make one Mega mile muncher.

Unless Alpina come up with a D5(s?) I'd be quite interested.

That would be the Alpina D5.... thus my comment about D5 (S) a tweaked 550, not just a tweaked 535.

That makes more sense then, thus clarified. Unlikely as then the ALPINA offering would overshadow the BMW factory one and they have a sort of gentleman's agreement in place not to do that.

Bearing in mind that the 550d is purportedly all wheel driven, the extra power will most likely be swallowed by the additional weight and transmission losses, so there probably won't be much, if anything between them on the road. The car from Buchloe will do without a top speed limiter too.

Still, it's only 30bhp, surely just the obligatory "remap" away...

Tongue firmly in cheek
