It's a fkn Datsun! The MX-5 is cheaper than the Jag XKR or a 911 cab. They're all convertibles - by your reasoning the Jag and the Porsche should cost the same as the Mazda presumably?
Silly comment. Whilst I love the Evoque's looks, at £44K for what amounts to a golf-sized car on stilts (albeit a very good looking one,) it's frankly very poor value. A comparison to a Quashqai isn't as daft as it sounds as the Quashqai is a bigger, more spacious, more practical cross-over/psuedo-4x4... It's kinda in the same class too, whilst an MX5/XK/911 most certainly aren't.Of course, LR have got their marketing spot on, so it'll continue to sell like hot cakes, and they'll make huge amounts of money, and good luck to 'em, long may it continue.
I wouldn't have one as it's too small, it's an LR so it'll very likely break (unlike the Datsun ) and my local dealer is an absolute tosser with no concept of customer service.

It looks brilliant and it's very desirable. But it's not small, it's tiny. As in tiny for what it costs. You can buy a well equipped Qashqai+2 130hp diesel for half the price and it's much bigger. OK not all of the useless feel good BS gadgets present nor the middle-class image, but better VFM surely.

If you're worried about VFM, don't own 2 cars; own 1 that does your "family wagon" duties and is also "interesting (and a) fun car." I'm sure as you are fixated on VFM, you'll find this offers the best solution.

What are you talking about ? You never ever look at the price of a car ? Edited by nickfrog on Saturday 26th November 23:40

For anyone considering one just realise this - the 'Design Executive Director' for this car was Victoria Beckham. True story.
For anyone who actually cares about the truth rather than what they read in the tabloid press, Victoria Beckham was actually brought in very late in the process, more for the (apparent) cache of the name than anything else, and had no real input to any of the deisgn, other than a few 'choice' finishes in the interior.
It really surprises me that people who don't really have a clue about cars sign up to, and post on, Pistonheads.
I'm actually an incredibly knowledgeable and intelligent petrol head (this is true and not for comedic effect...) and your comment about not having a clue about cars has struck a nerve with me as you couldn't have been more wrong. Go on, test me!

Why ? I really love cars so I want the best possible car for my money. As a family car, the Evoque seems poor VFM to me. Besides, the less I spend on the family wagon, the more I can spend in a potentially more interesting fun car. HTH.

I've gone the recommended route. Mrs. GBB drives the "family wagon" which is a nice sensible Honda FRV leaving me free to run something more "interesting", that said the need to collect 2 or 3 kids from school/cubs/rugby, etc. on occasion means even my 328 Coupe became too small really (it wouldn't have been a problem if Mrs. GBB would drive my automatic) so I've traded up, but the lack of serious mileage on the fun car makes running a V8 palatable.
The Evoque is lovely to look at, but value wise doesn't make sense, but then new cars never do.

I am not completely sold on the looks...the wife is which I suspect is more like the person they designed it for.
I would suggest they are selling bucket loads of them; I have a daily commute down the M6 through cheshire into the midlands.
Without word of a lie; I see at least 3-4 transporters full of them heading south every day.
I did see 8 transporters one day and I am only on the m6 for 1 hour.
Wonder when the hybrid is due out.

looks great! Style over practicality though, which I am not knocking as this will sell well. Just not for me, if I was to spend that much money for a small car I would buy something lower and rwd.
That whole post makes no sense! If you were to buy something lower and RWD you would be buying something completely different in a different class that would be less practical!

So this gets 125+ comments and 7 pages...and a 420bhp RWD roadster from Merc can only barley muster up 2 pages in about 4 days....what does this tell us about PH?
It says people on here are always way too quick to moan about things than praise them.unrepentant said:

Off-roaders (or pseudo off-roaders) are not very practical, their volume is compromised by how high their floor pan and load area are and how much space is taken by the transmission/suspension/wheels. A RWD estate would be more practical and offer more volume. If you were to buy something lower and RWD you would be buying something completely different in a different class that would be less practical!
