Want.

Cars like this aren't generally my style. For my next car I'm looking at an S2 Exige S, but the style and interior of this car seriously tempt. Especially when I'm unlikely to bother w/ trackdays in the Exige for a while anyway, and will mostly just use it to commute to work and back.

I've 'built' one on the RR site and the interiors are absolutely stunning. I think in an era when a lot of us spend most of our driving time sitting in traffic everyday this is an appropriate car.

I just hope that the VB associations are forgotten by the public more quickly than not vomit

It's 2WD??!!

I honestly thought these things were 4WD.

'Land Rover' doesn't really work if it's only 2WD.

A small Jaguar hatchback would have been more appropriate.
Where was it you took your test drive of it?

Nope, 2wd is only a option, besides for the school run and keeping comsumption down why not. I'd have 4wd but it just offers choice.

They are all 2wd and Victoria Beckham did all the AutoCad drawings, engine selection and road testing herself.

Anyone who buys one of these instead of a 7 year old Supercharged full fat Range Rover, series Landy, G class or a UniMog is a big girl's blouse.

Ohterwise a good car, i've driven a couple and they certainly turns heads, although that could be me i am gorgeous...
Yes, the Victoria Beckham factor would put me off too. Although, the expression on the faces of real LR designers at the mention of VB, tells you all you need to know about her actual input.

Big girls blouse here!
I've had mine 2 weeks & absolutely love it.. Mind you I wouldn't be seen dead in a RRS, that design is about as attractive as Fatima Witbread !!

Saw one parked next to a VW Beetle, amazed at how small they are.

They're about the same size as a Freelander, which is about the same size as the original Range Rover.

For me the deal-breaker is the squashed roof. It just screams to me of form over function. Being able to see out the back window is is fairly important. The Evoque seems to have been designed purely to an aesthetic that has been driven (no pun intended) by marketing requirements rather than practical requirements such as visibility. In my current state of grumpiness this makes driving/owning one the equivalent of wearing cuban-heel boots to go hiking.

I don't mind saying I love these cars.

I hope they sell well and once someone has depreciated one for me I may well consider having a second hand one in a couple of years.

rolleyes

For anyone who actually cares about the truth rather than what they read in the tabloid press, Victoria Beckham was actually brought in very late in the process, more for the (apparent) cache of the name than anything else, and had no real input to any of the deisgn, other than a few 'choice' finishes in the interior.

It really surprises me that people who don't really have a clue about cars sign up to, and post on, Pistonheads.
Yes i'm fully aware of the story - hence the sarcastic 'true story' comment - obviously the subtle comedic effect was lost on you.

I'm actually an incredibly knowledgeable and intelligent petrol head (this is true and not for comedic effect...) and your comment about not having a clue about cars has struck a nerve with me as you couldn't have been more wrong. Go on, test me!

you can get a 2wd freelander, so the fact that a more fashion oriented landy is available as 2wd should be no surprise (not that this one is 2wd).

I don't see much of an issue with a low rear roofline limiting rear visibility. Theres nothing I need to see out the back of my car that's more than 5' off the ground so its fine. As long as I can see 3 lanes of a motorway and the back of something I'm reversing up to it's fine

You could get something fun for that.

Beetles look small next to anything other than may be an original Mini. Cars have grown a lot in the last 5 decades.

But its a 2.2 diesel.

for 44k

Its a nice car, at maybe £15-16k. But 44k? I'd expect a proper Range rover with a proper engine for that.

As long as it keeps JLR making money, that is good, for the simple reason that they will then be able to keep building Defenders and full size Range Rover TDV8s.

I won't buy one and resent the fact that they have used the RR name to give it a more upmarket image - to me, it isn't a proper Range Rover, but then nor is a Sport, but I can also see its appeal. Plus it is British made, which is only a good thing to me.

Hi guys,

Great to hear all the positive comments for the Evoque - really wasn't sure how it would go down with PHers. I'm no lover of SUVs or crossovers generally but this really floats my boat. But you'll have seen that.

And just to clarify, the car we had was a 4WD. The 2WD one is the eD4 with the 150hp engine and the 133g/km emissions. All the rest - TD4, SD4 and Si4 - are currently 4WD only. As far as I'm aware there are more 2WD variants coming but at the moment most are 4WD.
