Seeing as my n/s/f tyre was illegal, and had been for a few weeks (come on, rage at me phers), i took the plunge and went into kwik fit.

I'd had a price from ATS but they didnt have the tyre in stock, Kwik Fit did but it was about £4 more.

I was a bit apprehensive when i parked the ST in front of the young apprentice boy, but in fairness, i was in and out within 10 minutes. Nice new tyre, (filled with nitrogen for some reason), no damage to the wheel or anything like that.

Car now doesnt judder at speed or under heavy braking (rage at me some more, ph).

All for £89. Got a right proper nasty cheapo ditchfinder on the front now (some of you must be ready to explode by now). boxedin

So, i know places like kwik fit sometimes have a bit of a crappy reputation, but i cant report any problems. In fact, i was most suprised how quick and courteous they were.

I recently had a voucher which effectively gave me a free MOT at KwikFit, so I decided to use it. All I can say is that the MOT tester was excellent, a really friendly chap who was happy to chat about things as he carried out the test (and I watched). I was also quite happy that the car would have been well treated by him had I not been there. So, a thumbs up from me.

Couldn't fault the service.

Put new clutch plate in check.
Put gearbox in boot of car check.
Leave driveshafts dangling on muddy road check.
Car undriveable check.
"£278 pounds please".

That's all.

They use Nitrogen as it rusts the tyres out quicker so they can sell you a new one.

Tyres rust?!?!

st, I'd best get out there and Waxoyl my tyres before winter sets in. I'd best pay extra attention to the tread...

Did they use an airwrench and then bounce on a torque wrench twice too? Y'know, just to make sure it was properly overtightened...

I needed 2 tyres for my MG. 205/45/17 which is an awkward size for places to have in stock. Kwik fit had 2 continental conti sport 3 in stock. 2 for £155 or so. Considering best price I had for michelins were 240 for two. T1-R? £110 each...

On a Sunday at 4pm couldn't complain!

Puncture repair done without quibble, even insisted on carrying the wheel back across the car park to my boot for me.

2 good quality tyres ordered on-line and pre-booked, fitted with no problems and cheaper than the cheapest 'direct' place.

Sorry to relate my last 2 shocking experiences.

All tyres are filled with about 80% nitrogen (ie normal air) some tyre place now use 100% nitrogen as its considered more stable so pressures don’t change as much due to ambient temperature, I doubt it makes much difference.

Thing is - as with all these threads -

Its actually got bugger all to do with kwik-fit, and everything to do with the fact you found a decent, honest, keen young lad to deal with.

Of which there are plenty, in all types of business. You just have to find them.

Quality! I'd buy just one winter tyre to put on the spare, you'll hear keyboards exploding up and down the land.

I wonder if they are still doing that 25% off promotion.

I would, but it isn't a focus.
