I really really wanted one of these. Until recently when I realised I could buy a Nissan GTR for similar money. It is beautiful, but it can't keep up with the competition!
Perhaps it's an age thing, so kids want the fastest thing on 4 x wheels whereas in reality the two cars are incomparable...

imagine ... "Darling let's go for a meal tonight, I'll be round at eight in the Aston."

versus "Darling I'd love to take you out for dinner tonight, I can pick you up around eight in the Nissan?"

I went out in a mate's pristine 2006 Vantage last week. We all know its a thing of beauty and that a GTR/911T will spank it away from the lights but I was astonished at how the intangible stuff makes you feel.

Suede/Leather rooflining etc and a brilliant (optional) sound system etc made it feel really special - more so than a 911. That its 911-sized and easily placed on the road and threaded through traffic added to the appeal.

Its not THAT fast but I came away wanting one anyway as a brilliant real-world car.

Aston Martins give me a warm feeling inside. They are utterly utterly gorgeous cars and I adore everything about them. Seeing and hearing them nowadays gives me the same feeling now as it did when I was a little lad. No other marque seems to have that affect on me.

I had the pleasure of throwing one of these around a track earlier this year and it was great. (One of the earlier ones with the smaller V8) Yes it wasn't bum clenchingly fast but just to be in one was an event for me, and as stated the noise is glorious on full chat. There is just something about them and I will own one at some point. Like somebody said above me there are faster/better handling/quicker cars out there for 30 bags but ITS AN ASTON, and in my opinion there wouldn't be anything else I could get for 30k that would make me feel as good.

Only really had eyes for Porsche, Ferrari but recently have noticed these Astons. Where Porsche have flooded the market with 997s new 991s are over 90k with some spec, and many people having problems with engines, Astons are starting to look good. As a second hand buy i rekon its a better bet than a 997.

I never really "got" the whole "Aston" thing to be honest, I've always thought I'd much prefer Pork, or a Gransport, but I think if I was actually in the position to buy, I'd probably end up with the Aston. Even as someone who can only associate them with the footballing fraternity, there's no denying that its a stunningly beautiful car, I can't think of anything prettier from the last 10 years...

Hmmm, actually I'd have an XK, for no rational reason whatsoever.

I'm glad that they seem to be holding up well with age and miles though, very encouraging.

Plus it takes extra 'petrolheadiness' to buy a fast Nissan for Aston money!

I owned a 2006 car with less than 20,000 on the clock, one years service bills last year came to nearly £4000, before adding on depreciation, great soundtrack, looks but reliability was an issue, swapped mine for a Morgan Roadster, then px'd for a 993 c4s! All in one year, have not missed mine at all since getting the Porsche, apart from the V8 growl!

Yes, but you can't do the whole (poor mans) 007 in the Porsche can you?...assuming you like James Bond, and have the imagination of a 12 y/o, like me!

Image of the car was a problem, could not take it out for fun day blasts like the morgan and 911, did not feel classic enough for me, and running costs are mad, never got this with any 911, from 997 to new (old) 993, which is a much prettier car and feels less lumpy than an Aston, dont want to be a Junior Bond, would have bought a Vanquish instead, but 6 monthly service intervals are even worse than yearly! The build quality was not too good and it ended up in the dealer too many times for my liking, I know these cars will not be a good long termer like any 911! But agree its good to have had one, even if only for a few years.

They are beautiful, there is no denying, but for me personally and not only because I would prefer 4 seats, as you can get into a Maserati GT now from 37k I'd be tempted that way I think.

If you seriously want a Vantage, the later 4.7 versions are the ones to go for, much better standard of build and the bigger engine means that the car's shove actually matches the noise. But this is why the price differential is still so great between the 4.7 & 4.3 as it's regarded as a much better model and priced accordingly.

Beautiful cars though.

Mr.CarCoach.

I've 3 friends all with V8 Vantages. They all absolutely love them to pieces.

Equally all 3 are always in at Harwoods in Chichester and seemingly for at least 2 weeks at a time.

We began to take the mick out of one of our friends because Harwoods and Aston Works had his car more of the time than he did. After 3 months the joke was starting to wear a little thin.... But he did get it back for almost 3 weeks once.

Despite all this all 3 of them would rather sell a right b*****k than the Vantage. That must say something - other than they should all buy a different car.

My dad had always promised himself an Aston and bought a new 4.7 V8V when he retired. I'm sure he could've bought all manner of faster or driftier or grippier or torquier cars, but since he first saw a DB4 as a child he'd always wanted one. And it is the most fabulous conveyance. I love being in it - the smell, the noise, the ambience. Quite apart from that, the ride without sports pack is good, the steering is great, the driving position exciting and the sheer stiffness of the structure is excellent. I'm sure it's 10% less good than a 911 at pure driving but the way it makes you feel is fantastic. I'm a massive fan; just wish I could afford one of my own...

You would think people would know by now, like a free lunch there is no such thing as a cheap super car.

Yes it's an Aston Martin, but its heading for six year old got 88K on the clock needs a service and the vendor can't be acensoreded to put a new set of mats in it.It's got dents and scratches and an alloy with kerb rash and thats just what you can see.

If it was a Mondeo you wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

So really any sensible buyer would go to a dealer and source one with a warranty.

As a single chap in his early 30's, very few brands are as effective at removing knickers as Aston Martin.
