I would consider a Lupo GTI, great fun little cars.
Yeah they are good but IMO don't really justify the prices they command. 300bhp/ton said:

Some interesting suggestions and thanks to all who made them.
Firstly, I don't like diesels.
Never been a fan of the A2.
The Nissan Bricks - no...just no.
The BMWs - the 1 is too long and the looks...no. Could live with the saloon but not the hatch. Did look briefly at the 3 hatch buat again, the looks are dated for me.
Colt - not a huge fan of the looks but not something I'd really thought about
Smart - no, on the looks alone.
The red ST did remind me how fantastic the Ford heated screen is which again bumps it back up the rankings.
I also quite like the Ignis Sport suggestion - seems to be off the boy racer radar and while not exacly attractive to look at, isn't minging either.

Shame you don't like diesels - the Mk1 Fabia VRS is a cracking all-rounder, and is shorter than the dimension you quoted.
A word about the Fiesta's - both the Zetec S and ST are very short geared so do silly revs at motorway speeds and are very thirsty compared to their performance. I do think they're the best looking sporty hatch of the last few years.

Having had a scout round, it seems that South Wales doesn't have a great selection (or any)of any of these cars but a Sportka has caught my eye (NOT a nancy Streetka)in a more subtle midnight blue metallic than the usual brighter blue. This one has cloth not the horrid 2-tone leather and is a lot cheaper than the other options so tempts me as it's credit card cheap.
The reviews seem favourable.
The Golf is costing me £105 to fix so should provide a derisory px.
94bhp is perfectly adequate for my needs. Any negative views apart from the image - I don't much care about that, I'm far too old.

I quite like the look of those tbh. In fact I think they've aged rather gracefully. Pretty sure either Tiff or VBH gave them a good review when new too, as in a hoot to drive. The reviews seem favourable.

If it isn't too small for you, then I'd think they are a fun, frugal, chuckable hatch.
