Following on from this thread... http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=3&a...

What is the best car made and sold in the UK?

Nominations from me have to include the McLaren F1, the Range Rover (L322), and the Jaguar XJ220.

Thoughts?

Original Mini was pretty game changing, and probably meant more to more Britons than any other car made and sold here.

So doesn't have to be a current car then?

If it is cars currently on sale, the Land Rover Discovery - SUV, MPV, Limo, proper off road ability - it really is a jack of all trades (except sports car) and master of all.

Of all cars - the original Mini, classless, innovative, better than the sum of its parts.

Well if the "Best Car In The World" is a Rolls-Royce, and it has to be made and sold in UK, I guess...

Oh and surely "The Best" has to be one that actually works every day?

I see the Jaguar E-type winning this, even though I really don't like the car you have to admire it
One of the prettiest cars ever made (not in my eyes)
Cheaper than any of the Astons out at the time
Everyone who was anyone had one
They are still sought after today
They sold st loads of them considering what that they were a sports car
Massive top speed for the time they were released.

I can't really see how it could be beaten, personally I prefer a TR6 over an E-type but the E-type is an awesome car regardless.

I'm with the mini advocates on this one. Revolutionary at the time, years ahead of the rest of the world when it was launched and I still have a soft spot for it!

Early Rolls Royce's.
TVR Chimaera.
Morris Mini.
Land Rover Series 1.

If the Isle of Man counts, the Peel P50 is one of the coolest cars in history.

I agree with all of them, but maybe I would add the (as its is half german, and american owned, and its a van, so a bit of long a shot) the ford transit.
